📢Clean Cooking Alliance (CCA) is putting in public consultation new Clean Cooking methodology to address overcrediting. Give your view! The methodology references the most up-to-date estimations of fraction of non-renewable biomass (fNRB) at the national and subnational level, and disallows the use of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) TOOL30, which historically allowed for wide variability in fNRB calculations, and unrealistically high values. Cookstove performance degradation over time is addressed through the inclusion of each cookstove vintage in fuel efficiency monitoring samples. All projects shall apply a 5% deduction to address certain risks that cannot be feasibly measured at the project level or for which there is insufficient data to support a more granular estimate. These include leakage and the risk of non-permanence, although the latter is also covered to some extent through the fNRB parameter. The methodology addresses rebound and stacking by incentivizing direct fuel consumption measurements (through KPTs), which capture both, and applying conservative caps for displacing baseline fuel consumption when usage is measured primarily through surveys. Potential Hawthorne effects are addressed through a 10% discount applied to the maximum allowed average fuel savings when fuel consumption is measured through a KPT alone without sensors."

The Clean Cooking & Climate Consortium (4C), led by the Clean Cooking Alliance (CCA), released a new methodology for crediting emissions reductions from cooking projects. The Biden administration announced a regulation designed to turbocharge sales of electric or other zero-emission heavy vehicles, from school buses to cement mixers, as part of its multifront attack on global warming. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) projects the new rule could mean that 25% of new long-haul trucks, the heaviest on the road, and 40% of medium-size trucks, like box trucks and landscaping vehicles, could be nonpolluting by 2032. Today, fewer than 2% of new heavy trucks sold in the United States fit that bill. But climate change isn’t just a gradual rise in temperature - as the Environmental Audit Committee (EAC) reports, it’s hotter summers and more turbulent winters. At OVO, we have recently fed into the EAC’s heat resilience and sustainable cooling report to help people prepare for the heat, cool their homes and stay safe in the summer. The report details the importance of awareness of heatwaves and the need for low cost, sustainable ways to stay cool and protect our most vulnerable from planting trees to increasing home ventilation. Alone this isn’t enough - we must also get to the root of the problem and stop extreme heat at its source, by cutting carbon emissions and working with nature. Is it time for the marine sector to move away from move away from high-GWP (global warming potential) HFCs? The law The 𝗘𝗨 𝗙 𝗚𝗮𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 is gradually phasing out environmentally damaging F gases (such as HFCs found in refrigerants) to encourage the transition to greener alternatives. This means if your vessel has 𝗼𝗻𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗩𝗔𝗖, you have legal responsibilities for the safe handling, maintenance, documentation, and disposal of any F gases you use.
