💡 🍎 🍏 CBS: School psychologists, school nurses, Summer Rising, literacy programs and assistance for homeless students are among the initiatives that could lose money in the new city budget. All have been funded by pandemic-era federal stimulus, which is expiring July 1. "These are all programs that if we don't find funding for will be gone," one person said. Perhaps the most daunting resources in jeopardy of being cut are the city's free 3-K and pre-K programs. 💡 🍎 🍏 #Save3K, #PreK, #preschool, #earlychildcare, #affordablechildcare, #extendaftercare, #summerrising, #wraparoundservices, #supportiveservices, #workingparents, #specialeducation https://lnkd.in/giTJAECp

Transforming Child Justice in Australia: "A Call for Early Intervention and Comprehensive Reform" A recent report, "Help Way Earlier! How Australia Can Transform Child Justice to Improve Safety and Wellbeing," calls for urgent reforms to the child justice system in Australia, highlighting that the current approach, which often criminalizes children as young as 10, fails to address the root causes of offending behavior. Children and young people involved in the report emphasize that crime is often a symptom of unmet needs, rooted in social disadvantage. Instead of focusing on punitive measures like policing, strict bail laws, and incarceration, the report advocates for a shift towards policies centered on child wellbeing and human rights. Key recommendations include establishing a National Taskforce for child justice reform, appointing a Cabinet Minister for Children, creating a Ministerial Council for Child well-being, and enacting a National Children’s Act along with a Human Rights Act. The report underscores the importance of placing children at the heart of policymaking, empowering First Nations communities, supporting community-based initiatives, and building a child-specialized workforce. This comprehensive approach, based on evidence and children's rights, aims to create a more just and supportive environment for all children in Australia For full details of the report, click the link in the comments section. #Childsafety #childprotection #Humanrights #justicesystem
