A system for urban 3D flight planning of BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) UAVs in a high-intensity airspace must be able to handle deconfliction from restricted volumes of different kinds. Restricted volumes may be military zones, sensitive infrastructure or other areas where overflight is either hazardous or prohibited. It could also be areas where overflying is not prohibited, but less desired, such as populated areas. This will be handled with a medium safety factor, that adds a cost to flying through such an area. The video shows how Carmenta technology is used to deconflict a simple UAV route with both structures and a restriction area. What will the airspace of the future look like? It’s a safe bet it will contain a mix of crewed and uncrewed aircraft. But how do you manage that airspace to ensure safe Integrated Traffic Management? At Draken, with our partners Volant Autonomy, we’ve been working on the answer as part of the Agile & Integrated Airspace System (ALIAS) Project. After two years, this reached a successful conclusion when our DA-42 aircraft flew in live trials in April and June in Jersey. These trials saw multiple UAVs from a number of operators safely flown Beyond Visual Line of Site (BVLOS) in the same airspace as our crewed aircraft. It's a significant achievement which has seen partnerships forged across a host of companies. Flight duration is one of the important characteristics of a reconnaissance UAV. It enables the UAV to fly behind enemy lines, "escort" equipment, wait for the desired target to appear, and safely return to the operator. The "Furia" can stay in the air for up to three hours, allowing it to effectively perform tactical tasks.
