One of the crucial questions leaders constantly work on is how to turn organization goals into reality. Here’s a suggestion - try the OKRs approach. What are those Objectives and Key Results? 🎯 Objectives: These are the "Whats" of the goal journey. They express goals and intentions, striking a balance between ambition and achievability. Objectives must be clear, tangible, and measurable - so much so that their achievement is obvious to any rational observer. What is no less important is that the successful achievement of an objective must deliver clear value. 🔑 Key Results: They are about the "Hows." Key Results are the measurable milestones that push the objectives stated above forward. They describe outcomes, not just activities, and should be supported by evidence of completion: Metrics reports, change lists, or published data - credible evidence that showcases the progress. Often, we set goals with great intentions to achieve them, by: ✅️ Conducting research ✅️ Establishing a SMART goal ✅️ Creating an action plan Before long, obstacles appear that can distract us from our goal or cause us to give up on our dream - if we're not prepared to handle them. On this 🌱Wellness Wednesday 🌱, I encourage you to add ONE MORE step to your goal-achievement process: consider challenges you MAY LIKELY face along the way. I'm not promoting pessimism. But, because there's no way to predict all that can happen, it's helpful and wise to: 🤔 Ask others, who achieved similar goals, what challenges they faced. 🤔 Consider external threats that could delay your success. 🤔 Add a buffer to your timetable, just in case. These 3 things will help you plan for "the unexpected," stay calm when troubles arise, and not feel so bad if achievement doesn't happen right away. Actions outweigh intentions. This year, I got it wrong sometimes. I measured some relationships like a business KPI. Set KPIs for the company and listed a few of my main relationships, but I was measuring outcomes, not actions. Outcomes can’t be controlled, but actions can be. My team called me out. It was a moment of clarity. In the chaos of business and life, it's crucial to focus on what's in your control. Actions matter, not just results. Results matter too, so be clear on what you measure and why.
