In 2017, I joined Stony Brook University on Long Island to take on a unique role focused on innovation and strategy in fundraising and alumni relations.
I was nervous about how my consulting experience would translate to the practitioner realm, but was lucky to have great managers like Dexter A. Bailey, Jr., Deborah Lowen-Klein, and Justin Fincher, Ph.D. to support and challenge me on the journey.
Fast forward to 2024 and I’m in awe of all that has transpired in these seven years. Stony Brook raised $1.3 billion from generous donors to support everything from scholarships for low-income students to groundbreaking faculty research to top-notch clinical care.
But all good things must come to an end.
My next adventure will be at a university I’ve long admired, New York University, where I'll have the opportunity to lead Advancement Services and Analytics alongside my team leads Mario Guevara, Ping Gallivan, and Lisa Murphy.
What most attracted me to NYU is that it represents boldness, ambition, and quality at scale. As the largest private university in the nation, it embraces an urban identity and focus on the professions yet also graduates hundreds of doctoral candidates and does $1.4B in sponsored research annually.
A pioneer in global education, it has a major presence in many nations and enrolls more international students and sends more students on study abroad than any other university in the nation.
But, most important to me, this transition allows me to continue what I’ve focused on my whole career: social mobility. Most people don’t know that NYU graduates more Pell grant recipients than any other private research university and graduates them at a rate of 90%+.
