I am proudly Team Massachusetts and now, thanks to Secretary of Economic Development Yvonne Hao and Undersecretary Sarah Stanton, have the official state-issued bracelet to prove it. Sec. Hao and the Healey-Driscoll Administration are poised to reauthorize the $1 billion/10-year Life Sciences Initiative 3.0. Since its first iteration in 2008, Massachusetts has: ✅ 110% life sciences industry employment growth (18 of the top 20 global pharmaceutical companies are now based here). ✅Scaled to ~30% of US life sciences venture capital funding. ✅Become home to ~15% of the US drug development pipeline. ✅Grown lab space by ~250% since 2010, with more than 60 million square feet in 2023. ✅#1 in National Institutes of Health awards per capita (2022). It was wonderful discussing how healthcare innovation, equity and access are central to continued industry growth. Massachusetts is fortunate to have leadership that believes wholeheartedly in innovating for job creation and, most importantly, patients. cc: Massachusetts Executive Office of Economic Development (EOED) #ArdelyxProud
