When conservative treatment is advised, it is advisable to immobilize the thumb ONLY in the case of an intra-articular fracture of the distal pole with a displacement of less than 1.5mm! In all other cases, we recommend conservative treatment with a standard short-arm cast without thumb immobilization, which, besides comfort, improves patients’ hand function as it allows thumb opposition and thereby enhances pinch grip.
In our field, definitive answers are rarely found! Each case must be evaluated individually, and the patient treated in a personalized manner.
Congrats!! Looks like a fantastic facility.
