Reliability-centered maintenance, a product of the 1978 work of F. Stanley Nowlan and Howard F. Heap have already been accepted by all major assets in the world and finding their way into very many other assets and industries. Before 1978, Preventive maintenance was the darling maintenance program of major industries. The assumptions of preventive maintenance - a fundamental cause-and-effect relationship between scheduled maintenance and operating reliability have been disproved. Condition Monitoring (CdM) coming onto the scene in the 80s as an alternative to preventive maintenance added some sauce to F. Stanley Nowlan and Howard F. Heap`s RCM. Pivoting from what I call a "Maintenance Engineer" career where preventive maintenance and reactive maintenance are one`s only dancing partners in the plant, to the sexiest maintenance engineering career of the 21st century- as data science was once dubbed-, a Reliability Engineer, the maintenance Engineer needs upskilling or at least some "showing road". An eclectic mix of modern computing, communication, and facilitation skills is required for RCM. In-depth understanding of RCM(Intuitive, rigorous, considerations for facility acquisition, Quality control, and commissioning) Data Analysis, Computerized maintenance management systems(CMMS), RCA facilitation, Condition monitoring techniques, and now model-based and data-driven predictive maintenance. In light of this, a few weeks ago we started a free RCM workshop. The objective was to "show road" in Nigerian parlance. The Power Of Purpose Three systems engineers were working extremely hard and quickly in a lab. One was squatting, one was standing, and one was half-standing. The first engineer said, "I'm a system engineer," in response to Thoray's question, "What are you doing?" To support my sales team and provide for my family, I'm putting much effort into churning out the bill of materials for the solution. The second engineer responded, "I'm a network architect." I'm developing a client-focused solution.
