Your child might be heading to their first day of Kindergarten in the next few weeks and as sad as it may seem, you blink twice and they will be graduating high school and off to college! Hmmm, and yet another school closure...Wells College. 🤔Once again, declining enrollment named as one of the reasons and not being able to recover since Covid-19. 👉🏾Here's one thing to consider, during a teach out, Admissions goes first. ❓Have you experienced this? I have, and most don't understand how it feels. ⚰️So the question is, are you still winging it, closing your eyes and praying that the angel of death will pass over your campus? OR, are you putting things in place to save your school? Your students are the answer. ❓Who connects with them first after marketing? 🔊ADMISSIONS. ❓What is their experience after that first call? Would they schedule the tour or block your number? They have choices. ❓Why would they choose you? Why would they stay? You can't have grads without enrollments? AKRON- Coming together as a community, the Citizen Committee Akron Public Schools launched the first campaign in 12 years to build a new North High School and invest in Akron Student’s futures. The levy would be an investment by property owners of $3.63 per month on a $100,000 home assessed valuation for a new North High School and $22 per month on a $100,000 home assessed valuation for school operating costs. Assessed valuation of a home is 35% of the appraised value of a property. “The need for this levy is imminent, and it’s bigger than any one individual or group,” the Lebron James Foundation said in a statement. “It’s about every current Akron Public School student and the generations of students to come after them. It’s about our future as a school district, and ultimately the responsibility we all share to ensure every single child has an opportunity to succeed. That’s why we’re coming together as a community to do something bigger together.” Over 87% of Akron Public School students graduate in four years and 84% of the 2023 graduating class reported they had a job, went on to higher education or joined the military within six months of graduation. Top 5 Secrets to Choosing the Perfect Independent School for Your Child 90% of parents don’t know these insider tips before applying! 1.) Start early in the process by visiting an independent school fair in your geographic area. Today, my colleague Derrick Redwine and I hosted the Paideia School table at the #BlackParentForum school fair. It was great partnering with him to share information with visitors. 2.) Narrow down a list of schools to do further research online. Do not over-ask at the school fair because this is really a time for admissions representatives to meet and invite as many people as possible to learn further about their school. You’ll have another opportunity to make a first impression later in the process.   3.) Continue to narrow your list to 3-5 schools you plan to visit in-person. Even if you’ve already picked what you think is a great school it only helps to see multiple schools in person providing you a first hand experience to compare against. 4.) Make note of how you felt during the school visit. What was most memorable? What was worrisome? What did you notice in regards to the interactions between children and adults, children and children, and adults and adults? 5.) Enroll at the school that is the right match for your family.
