Anyone interested in a career in journalism? The rather fabulous Tortoise team (well worth checking out if you haven't heard of them) have opened up applications for their latest Journalism School week-long internship. No experience required. You just need to be 18+ and able to answer these two questions: 1) why you want to join the Tortoise Journalism School for a week and 2) “What’s on your mind?” I would personally love to read the answers to that that second question! But I'm not on the Tortoise team. Anyway, here's the link to share with anyone you think could be interested (and interesting!). https://lnkd.in/ebF8h7GQ

Print journalism is becoming a fading art—not just on newsstands, but in our schools as well. The absence of school publications limits opportunities for students to gain valuable writing experience. However, Journalism for All, a local New York non-profit, is committed to reversing this trend by expanding journalism programs, school publications, and internship opportunities across the city, where only 27% of high schools currently have a student newspaper. Changing times. Changing trends. Change is the only constant in life. The University of New Hampshire is phasing out its English/journalism major due to declining enrollment and resource limitations. However, journalism education will continue through a new interdisciplinary major focused on communications and digital media. Faculty members express frustrations but believe the change is necessary to adapt to shifts in the media landscape. Some students are already diversifying their skills to prepare for modern journalism careers beyond traditional newsrooms.

Hello, if you have any journalist friends, this may be a good fit! I am just getting to the 5-5-5 Tim Ferriss newsletter. Look at this gem; it sounds amazing, Tim and @UC Ber, and I am sure you are pushing the envelope to discover how to bring this help to the mental health community in a safe and ethical way. Did you know this: 🤯 There are more than 50 publicly traded companies related to the development or administration of psychedelic like drugs in the US, with at least 3 valued at more than $1 billion. The market for psychedelic substances is projected to grow from $2 billion in 2020 to $10.75 billion by 2027, a growth rate that may even outpace the legal US cannabis market. New York State Psychiatric Institute, New York
JOURNALISTS: Apply for a $10,000 grant to report in-depth print and audio stories. (Deadline TODAY) The Ferriss – UC Berkeley Psychedelic Journalism Fellowship application is now open and due today (February 1st) at 5:00 PM PT. https://lnkd.in/eqSruf2P

Seeing a couple of journalism fellowships cross my desk and I have questions: ✒ What do people look for in these types of applications that I should be aware of as I prepare to apply? ✒ What happens when I run out of reference letter candidates (not exactly the right word here but mostly fits the bill)? ✒ Are most people up for writing more than one reference letter on your behalf? Let's talk about how all of us can make these applications the best they can be.

I did a thing! My first #research article has been published in the #AfricanJournalismStudies journal, and it is #openaccess so free to read for all. In it, I looked into the effect the Covid-19 pandemic had on journalism student's prospects and discussed how this shift should inform journalism educators and practitioners alike. 📖 Reimagining Through Crisis: How the Covid-19 Pandemic Changed the Fortunes and Futures of Journalism Schools and Graduates
