Which #lidar sensors are best suited for future automated vehicles? There exist various lidar companies with numerous sensors in their announced portfolios. Ouster, Valeo, Aeva, Luminar Technologies, Hesai Technology, Innoviz Technologies, Scantinel Photonics and RoboSense are just a few of these companies. Assessing the benefits of each of their sensors for the environment perception task of automated vehicles is difficult and expensive. At Institute for Automotive Engineering (ika), we therefore use simulations for an early assessment. Not only can we test sensors that are not on the market yet, simulation tools give you annotations for free, making it easier to train perception model prototypes. Since multi-sensor setups and collective perception involving multiple vehicles are becoming more important, we have recently extended our simulation tool to simulate multiple different synchronized sensors simultaneously. In the end, the point clouds provided by the simulation tool can be adjusted to match the characteristics of each sensor. In this instance, the IMX459 sensorSSS from the business will be integrated with AMD's #technology in the SSS lidar reference design. According to an AMD statement, AMD's technology will support SSS's SPAD ToF Depth sensors🌐 by optimizing their processing capabilities.
