Certified by the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers, I’m a professional dog walker using ethical, reward-based methods, as well as a proud volunteer with Dogs Trust. New to sector following 18 years in Internal Comms.

Last night, I attended an excellent webinar hosted by Dogs Trust, showing how to muzzle-train dogs. The webinar was created with owners of XL Bullies in mind* so they're prepared for whatever law may/may not come into force at the end of the year. Coming from an internal comms background and currently retraining to work with dogs, there are three similarities between human and canine change comms that struck me. For example: 1) Someone decides the change and the timeline (CEO/Govt), regardless of whether that's enough time to prepare the audience. Muzzle training can take weeks if not months. 2) Taking the audience on the journey too quickly not only can scare, but will set you back, regardless of the bigger picture or deadline. Engagement is key. 3) Don't under estimate the power of fun/reward for the audience at each stage. ALWAYS stay stocked up on treats! *The webinar wasn't exclusively for XL Bully owners - many dogs can benefit from being muzzle-trained for other reasons, such as vet trips, anxiety and even those who try to eat everything walks 🍔 🍫 💩 . #dogstrust #dogs #dogtraining #dogbehaviour #positivereinforcement #ethicaldogtraining #internalcommunication #changecommunication
