Have you ever noticed your dog can be prescribed the same medications as you? Many medications are used for both dogs and humans, but their effects can be quite different. Medications like the antibiotic doxycycline work for both humans and dogs, but some human drugs — like ibuprofen — can be deadly to our four-legged companions. Even closely related drugs can have very different effects — the dog antibiotic enrofloxacin is very similar to ciprofloxacin used in humans, but it can cause hallucinations in people. Read more intriguing examples from Dr. Brennen McKenzie highlighting the effects of drugs on our dogs vs ourselves → https://lnkd.in/gR_ZcWVf

You and your dog age similarly. Dogs and humans share the same environments, food, lifestyles, and even healthcare progress. ‘One medicine’ uses this connection to improve health for both species by advancing disease prevention, treatment, and research. Dr. Nicole Ehrhart is the director of the Center for Healthy Aging at CSU and Loyal advisor. She is passionate about using insights into our shared health and environments to create innovative solutions that benefit both fields of medicine. “With everything there’s risk, but if nobody does it first, then you’re never gonna get to that point where you change the future,” said Samuel, whose dog G is participating in the STAY study — the clinical trial for LOY-002, our senior dog program. Thank you Marella Porter and Cincinnati’s Local 12 News for featuring Dr. Gabe Ibanez of Nurture Animal Clinic in Batavia, Ohio, and our VP of Clinical and Veterinary Medicine Dr. Ellen Ratcliff! Hear from Stephanie Stahl of CBS Philadelphia who interviewed vets Brennen McKenzie and Samuel Geller and a participant involved in our STAY study. This four-year clinical trial for LOY-002, our drug in development for senior dogs, aims to collect efficacy data to complete our application for full FDA approval. The segment also highlights our recent FDA milestone for LOY-001, our drug for large dogs, which we’re also working towards for LOY-002: https://lnkd.in/gyKywVda
