The results of an NIA-funded large, multi-ancestry genome-wide study identified 12 new DNA regions associated with Parkinson’s disease. The study included individuals of European, East Asian, Latin American, and African ancestry. Researchers found 78 independent loci — the physical locations of specific genes on a chromosome, including 12 previously unknown genetic regions.
