Are you trying to staff a defense contract but not got enough cleared talent? We have successfully helped a number of end clients and intermediaries find tech engineers across in the US & Europe for several years now. In 2024, this is really starting to pick up! The key engineers you should consider for your project if you don’t have them are: ✔ Embedded software engineers ✔ System engineers ✔ Cloud/DevOps engineers ✔ Cyber/Security engineers ✔ AI/ML engineers Will you need all of these as consultants? Likely not, as you will have some skills in house, and can move your FT engineers around depending on the projects you have available. However, all our customers would normally hire at least 2 out of these 4 to ensure their project(s) are successful as the last thing you want is to have to do hire in a frenzy or realize its too late. The most important thing is that you have someone on your team that has worked on a similar project(s) before. If you don’t, you'll lose out on the 'hit-the-ground-running' mentality of a contractor and it might take some time before they can truly add value. If you would like to discuss any of the above further, please don’t hesitate to reach out! [email protected] #clearedjobs #clearedengineers #softwareengineers

Growing as an engineer: What’s privacy infrastructure? I usually describe my job as building privacy infrastructure – my goal is to let people do what they are good at (e.g. let the infra engineers launch their new load balancer, let the product engineers launch their new features etc.) without having to worry about questions like: - Can I log this data? Do I need to encrypt it in transit? - Can I copy this data across regions? - Should I talk to legal? Do I need their explicit approval? - Etc. In general the idea is that if engineers can merge their code without having CI/CD complain that some policies will be broken, they should be good to go. In practice, building privacy infrastructure is like crafting standard infrastructure but with a focus on shifting left for everything tied to privacy/compliance – the goal is to bake some of the invariants we want to enforce deep in the stack such that engineers can’t bypass it and don’t have to worry about it as long as they use standard infrastructure. I work closely with other infra teams as my work usually sits on top of their infrastructure – I’m also one of their close allies as I get to wave a stick to move some infrastructure projects a bit faster for privacy/compliance/security requirements. If you have experience building large scale infrastructure, we are hiring staff software engineers (and above) in Amsterdam (also in the US in San Francisco/Seattle) – reach out if you’re interested! #softwareengineering #privacy #infrastructure #compliance #security

It is becoming incredibly difficult to know where to focus knowledge as an engineer. Thus far in my job search, descriptions for the exact same job title have included requests for proven experience with varying combinations of- 5 cloud providers 7 Git/version control products 5 non-cloud virtualization products 14 programming/scripting languages 9 CI/CD tools (including 5 years of experience with one that came out of beta less than 5 years ago) 8 orchestration tools 12 logging/monitoring tools 6 relational databases 10 NoSQL Databases 12 OSes/distributions Blanket network and security engineering knowledge across each cloud provider consisting of dozens of smaller tools and resources and multiple on-prem technologies like Cisco That's 88 technologies- not including the network/security configs- and nobody is using exactly the same tech stack. Obviously there isn't an expectation of encyclopedic knowledge of everything or it would be impossible to hire anyone and even with experience in ALL of these technologies, candidates would likely need to brush up on something they haven't used in months/years, so my questions to hiring managers is- what should candidates focus on in interviews that include covering tech stacks where some small pockets of knowledge may be lacking or rusty?

🌍 On the Edge of a Technological Revolution: The Fourth Industrial Revolution & Defence! We are standing at the precipice of a monumental shift in the way we live, work, and protect our nations. The Fourth Industrial Revolution is here, fuelled by a blend of disciplines and massive data flows. While while data is the fuel, it is software that's the engine driving this transformation. In the realm of Defence, software is no longer just a support tool — it’s changing the very character of conflict. Its flexibility and adaptability offer the decisive edge, far more than any piece of hardware can. Our governments and armed forces are racing to keep pace, transforming how they plan, train, and operate. One standout example of this transformation is the Defence DevSecOps Service (D2S), launched under the Defence Digital Foundry. D2S is revolutionising how Defence develops and deploys software, ensuring it’s fast, secure, and perfectly tuned to the needs of those on the front lines. At a time when threats to global peace and security are more complex than ever, the D2S vision statement is striking: "Defence can prevail in competition and conflict, enabled by software created for the needs of users and fine-tuned for the challenges of the moment." Let’s embrace the power of innovation to secure a safer future for all. 🚀 If you are looking for your next move, or to even start a career in the Defence sector, I have multiple live vacancies at the moment! - If any of the below appeal to you, drop me a message here or feel free to reach out directly to [email protected] - Senior QA Tester - 65k (Farnborough - Hybrid) - QA Tester - 50k (Farnborough - Hybrid) - Site-Reliability Engineer (Apps) - 70k (Farnborough - Hybrid) - Site-Reliability Engineer (Automation) - 70k (Farnborough - Hybrid) - Senior Infrastructure Engineer - 70k (Farnborough - Hybrid) - Lead Java Developer - 90k (London - Hybrid) - Front End Developer - 80k (London - Hybrid) - Lead DevOps Engineer - 90k (London - Hybrid) - AWS Cloud Solutions Engineer - 85k (London - Hybrid) - Lead Big-Data Engineer - 90k (London - Hybrid) - Lead Geospatial Engineer - (London - Hybrid) #DefenceInnovation #Defence #DefenceCareers #FourthIndustrialRevolution #DevSecOps #TechnologyInDefence #SoftwareTransformation #Hiring #Addition
