At Merchants & Marine Bancorp, Inc., we continue to follow the path less taken. Most banks focus exclusively on growth, sales, and acquisitions, with many forgetting that behind each of these pursuits lie countless interactions of both internal and external clients. Clients who deserve to have their needs and preferences considered as a part of the design of the ecosystem they’re operating in. Unfortunately, this misplaced focus by leaders produces frustration among team members, diminished client satisfaction, and reduced efficiency & long-term profitability for the banks themselves. With this (and our teams, our clients, and our growing Family of Brands) in mind, we launched Community of Resources (COR). COR will help sustain a client-centric approach in our operational, finance, bank services and risk management lines of business within our Company as we continue to grow and expand our Family of Brands. COR is led by a team of highly capable and highly experienced bankers who are focused on creating better experiences for both internal and external clients. As best I can tell, COR represents one of the first new “Bank Services Companies” that has launched in quite some time. And, that’s even more true of BSC firms launched by banks. We have big plans and even bigger hopes for COR and the impact it will have on not only on our Family of Brands, but on community banks throughout our region. Here’s to continuing to follow the path less taken in pursuit of building stronger communities and brighter futures!
Welcome to the Community of Resources (COR) LinkedIn page! We are thrilled to present our brand and showcase our team members through social media. COR was created as a division of Merchants & Marine Bancorp, Inc., to support the expanding family of brands. We are a brand driven by a passion for developing new talent, delivering exceptional service, and driving operational excellence.

“Is Honeypot’s CEO A Sellout For Selling Her Business?”…Day 99 of 365 Like a lot of us, I had always assumed that the point of starting a business was to create a legacy that would pass down to future generations. In our community, this is kind of the standard thought process and it shows itself every time a Black business owner sells the business. People are ENRAGED at the idea of someone selling their business and they are quick to call that person a sellout. 🙄 But, what if we’re just looking at this from the wrong perspective? Once I really started to study business, I realized that the point of starting a for profit business, was to generate, ya know…PROFIT! Maximize profit, maximize return to stakeholders and then sell the business. Rinse and repeat. Who knew lol? This actually makes perfect sense when you think about it. In terms of legacy, how often do children want to follow in their parent’s footsteps? More than anything, children want to do their own thing, pave their own pathway and create their own lives. How often have you seen or heard children run their parent’s business down to the ground in just a few short years? Instead of forcing businesses upon them to run; I think it’s far more important to pass down proper mindsets around business. It’s important to teach them that great businesses are always a series of easily duplicatable systems, heavy automation and standard operating procedures. Businesses come and go, if I’m honest. But, once you have the ability to build a successful business, you can do it whenever and wherever life takes you. We should celebrate every single Black business owner that created a business, optimized it, scaled it and sold it at the price *they* wanted to sell it for. This is an incredible accomplishment and requires a level of diligence, commitment and dedication that most people could only wish to have. Lemme know what you think below.

Celebrating 58: A Year of Legacy and Longevity As I turn 58 today, it’s a moment to reflect not just on personal milestones but also on the legacy of enduring businesses founded in the same year, 1966. The Miami Dolphins, kicking off their legacy in professional football, stand as a testament to resilience and passion. MasterCard revolutionized the way we handle money, while Best Buy has become the go-to for all our electronic needs. Caesars Entertainment has created lasting memories in the world of gaming and hospitality. Similarly, Acuity Insurance has been providing reliable coverage, and IHOP continues to serve up delightful breakfast experiences. First Hawaiian Bank remains a cornerstone in financial services, just as General Growth Properties has shaped our shopping experiences. Raymond James Financial has guided countless clients through their financial journeys, and Southwest Airlines has redefined affordable air travel. Turning 58, I find inspiration in these companies’ ability to adapt and thrive. It’s a reminder that with dedication and innovation, longevity is achievable in both personal and professional realms. Here’s to celebrating the journey so far and looking forward to many more years of growth and success. **Happy 58th Anniversary!** #Legacy #58Years #Milestones #EnduringSuccess #BusinessAnniversary #MiamiDolphins #MasterCard #BestBuy #CaesarsEntertainment #AcuityInsurance #IHOP #FirstHawaiianBank #RaymondJames #SouthwestAirlines

We improve the career progression of high-potential black, female or low-household-income professionals across their entire career lifecycle, from school leavers (Day One) to Board Level.
People of black heritage don't need to be inspired or to have higher aspirations. We need networks. I can't stand organisations that 'raise aspirations' when it comes to supporting people of black heritage. We do not need more confidence. We do not need more knowledge. We do not need more aspirations. To level the playing field in the UK, we need access to more powerful networks. Over 70% of high-value business transactions come from networks (not formal applications) in the UK. In 2016 I met the Chairman of a UK Bank and we became good friends. When I started my company, almost 50% of our initial revenue came from introductions that he made. Did he help me write pitch decks? Not really. Did he give me groundbreaking advice about business that I didn't already know? Nope. What he did was take me to dinners with other influential friends, recommend me to networks that he was privy to, and provide references to funding applications that required a credible backer. That was almost £150k generated from one man, who spent about an hour a month (or less even) supporting my business. I spent 70 hours a week in the same period but didn't have the same connections, so couldn't yield the same results for myself. I'm also grateful for others who have backed me and my business in the same way. Shout out to Paul Drechsler pictured here, who took me to dinner recently that has kickstarted more support for my mission. Grateful is an understatement.
