✨ Back-to-School with a Purpose! This past weekend, the New York Islanders, in partnership with the Islanders Children’s Foundation and Northwell Health, packed over 200 backpacks filled with essential school supplies. These backpacks were distributed to families who regularly visit our member agencies/network, giving children the tools they need to succeed in the new school year. At Long Island Cares, we are proud to connect deserving families to the incredible support provided by our community partners. Together, we’re building a brighter future for Long Island’s children! Through our strategic roadmap planning process, we developed a clear vision for the next 20 years. In those 20 years, we’ll build a resilient, equity-centered ecosystem that is better equipped to improve the social emotional health of children. What makes this roadmap so special is this 20-year vision – we’re truly working toward long-term change! We recognize solving systemic issues isn’t solely the nonprofit sector’s responsibility. Systemic change requires a long-term commitment from all of us. #NonprofitCapacityBuilding #ChildAdvocacy

💤 Skegee: Your go-to for vegan sleep gummies and holistic wellness supplements. Sleep better, live healthier. 🌱
On National Build Day, Alabama Professional Services and Sleep in Heavenly Peace joined forces to tackle a daunting issue: child bedlessness. This initiative aimed to provide hand-made beds to children who, without this support, would have to sleep on floors or couches, contributing to severe health and emotional challenges. Reflecting on my own experiences, I remember volunteering for community projects similar to this where we came together, rolled up our sleeves, and made a tangible impact. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about working collectively to uplift those in need—it's a reminder of the positive change we can create in our communities. Did you know that sleep deprivation can lead to hyperactivity, anxiety, and depression in children? The bedlessness crisis is real, and initiatives like these are crucial for fostering healthier futures for our youth. What can you do to contribute to this cause? Consider volunteering your time or donating to organizations that address these pressing issues. Together, we can bring hope and comfort to the lives of children. #ChildWelfare #CommunitySupport #Volunteer #SleepInHeavenlyPeace #AlabamaProfessionalServices #NationalBuildDay

There is no pamphlet for parenting, but we do know what it takes to create a comprehensive primary prevention ecosystem that keeps children and families safe, healthy, and thriving. PCA America's signature program, Healthy Families America (HFA), has 30 years of demonstrated positive outcomes with home visiting, sometimes partnering with families that span generations. And yet, when you combine all of the organizations across the country providing this necessary service to communities, only 5% percent of eligible high priority families received home visiting services in 2022. Make a gift today in support of critical support for families, like HFA: https://lnkd.in/gX7wzH2r #PreventionIsPossible #HealthyFamiliesAmerica #HomeVisitingProgram #SupportingFamilies #DonateToday

In my decade of experience working in non-profit, three crucial lessons stand out. Firstly, advocating for your community requires addressing old wounds within yourself. It's essential to heal from past traumas within your own community before passionately standing up for them. Taking a moment for introspection can reveal which traumas need attention, ensuring they don't impede your advocacy. Secondly, delve into your core and identify the traumas that may hinder your progress. By consciously choosing which issues to work on, you prevent them from becoming stumbling blocks in your journey. This self-awareness allows for more effective and empathetic advocacy. Lastly, understand that pushing through barriers is a necessary part of the process. Those obstacles are often strategically placed to prolong change. By pushing open the door, you expedite progress, and your community, staff, and country are relying on your resilience and commitment. Your role in breaking down these barriers is crucial for fostering a more inclusive and equitable future.

Every interaction can teach you valuable lessons you can carry forward into other areas of your life. Daniel Cakora here again to share some reflections. Vendavo offers 16 hours of annual paid volunteer time to each employee so we can all give back to causes that matter to us. But this is something my family does outside of that. This year I volunteered for the Jackson Chance Foundation, and this one really hit home for me. Jackson Chance Foundation assists families with NICU-bound children by covering parking fees. My son spent a significant amount of time in the NICU, so I know what that’s like. Not having to worry about expensive parking fees during such a trying time was a weight off our shoulders for my wife and me. It gave us the freedom to visit our son, step away to run errands, and come back to spend more time with him – all without additional financial stress layered atop everything else. This cause means so much to us that we set aside money on birthdays and the anniversary of our son’s “come home day” to make contributions. There are little lessons like that everywhere. Openings for solutions that can help make others’ days a little less stressful or a little easier. Opportunities that matter a lot to the people on the other end of the experience. As Benjamin Franklin said, “When you’re good to others, you’re best to yourself.” https://lnkd.in/g547y64Z #vendavo #employeetakeover #jacksonchance #jcf

How can we encourage volunteer mentors? One way is to cultivate a 4-figure single donation so that mentors and mentees can enroll in lifelong skills for advocacy, community outreach, organizing, and fundraising. The SMT Program by Social Media Technologies offers "Meaningful Social and Professional" #SkillsKnowledgeAndAbilities that are customizable to each individual. These skills are taught remotely in 10-person cohorts #gotv
