LONG Building Technologies’ Post

Mike Zimbrick is a Foreman in our Portland, OR office and works for our HVAC Service team. But Mike is not just your standard HVAC mechanic – he is the only York Master Factory-Trained Technician in all of Oregon! When you need York chiller service, there’s no one who can serve you better than Mike! Mike has always had an aptitude for mechanical work. He’s been in the HVAC industry for over 19 years and previously worked for 8 years as an auto mechanic. Among his York Master Factory-Trained Technician status, his certificates and credentials include: 18 years as a UA 290 Steam Fitter, Class 5 boiler license, and Limited Energy Class B License. He’s a lifelong learner and is always eager to take courses or additional training to improve his knowledge and skills with HVAC, specifically on the technical side. It’s the basis for his advice to those looking to begin a career as an HVAC tech: “You have to understand the programming that a screwdriver can’t fix.” He began his career without much experience on the technical side of things, and as HVAC systems became more sophisticated and integrated with building controls, he’s had to learn to be more tech-savvy. Gaining a solid understanding of the technical side of HVAC will make you better equipped as a technician down the line. Each day, he performs preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment like chillers, mini-splits, RTUs, and boilers, or he responds to emergency service calls, trying his best to minimize downtime for our customers. No day is the same, and he loves the variety that he has in his work and the different challenges that are presented to him. But his favorite part of his job is the connections he gets to build with people. Establishing relationships with customers and getting to know them as he visits their facilities is what makes his job most enjoyable. He goes above and beyond in his work to not only fix problems as they occur, but to educate customers so they are empowered to understand their equipment and even make their own repairs. It’s the service behind our service that makes LONG special, and Mike exemplifies this with the effort he puts in to creating solid and trustworthy relationships with his customers. Mike spends much of his free time attending games or other events with his two children, and always plans a few vacations and camping trips to take together through the year. Up next, a trip to LA to enjoy a few of their theme parks! We’re extremely lucky to have Mike as a part of our LONG team, and with the knowledge, skills, and dedication he brings to his work, we think our customers are lucky to have him too!
