Yesterday, my CICP colleague Beatriz Carmela Quilingan and I facilitated a virtual Midpoint Review session for one of CICP's clients. We helped them set up a formal mentoring program in 2021. A midpoint review of the mentoring journey is always helpful to all stakeholders. First, it allows mentors to share experiences and exchange notes with fellow mentors, and the same goes for the mentees. Second, it provides an avenue for the pairs to take stock of their accomplishments and adjust their journey while still halfway into it. Third, it gives the Mentoring Program Manager or administrators a feel of how the participants' journey is coming along and enable them to step in when help is needed. This midpoint review is another one of those program mechanisms that ensure the sustainability of the mentoring relationships.

Amazing session tonight! Making the most of a mentoring relationship involves active participation and a proactive approach! Here are some key takeaways from tonight’s meeting! 1. Set Clear Goals: Clearly define your goals and objectives for the mentoring relationship. Discuss these goals with your mentor and ensure that you are both on the same page. This will help you stay focused and make the most of your time together. 2. Be Prepared: Come prepared to each mentoring session with specific questions or topics you want to discuss. This shows your mentor that you value their time and are committed to making progress. Prepare a list of topics or challenges you want to address to make the most of your mentoring conversations. 3. Take Initiative: Be proactive and take the initiative in driving the mentoring relationship forward. Don't wait for your mentor to guide you at every step. Identify areas where you need guidance or support and take action to seek it. Show initiative by taking on new projects or opportunities to demonstrate your growth and development. 4. Be Open and Receptive: Approach the mentoring relationship with an open mind and a willingness to learn and receive feedback. Be open to new ideas, perspectives, and constructive criticism. Embrace feedback as an opportunity for growth and improvement. 5. Act on Feedback: Actively apply the feedback and advice you receive from your mentor. Reflect on their input and make any necessary changes or improvements. Demonstrate your commitment by taking action and implementing the guidance you receive. 6. Seek Different Perspectives: Don't limit yourself to just one mentor. Seek out additional mentors or advisors who have different experiences and perspectives. This will provide you with a broader range of insights and guidance. 7. Build a Relationship: Foster a strong and trusting relationship with your mentor. Show genuine interest in their experiences and insights. Take the time to get to know them personally and build a connection beyond the professional realm. A strong relationship will enhance the effectiveness of the mentoring experience. 8. Maintain Regular Communication: Maintain regular communication with your mentor, even outside of scheduled mentoring sessions. Share updates on your progress, seek guidance when needed, and keep them informed about your achievements and challenges. Regular communication will keep the mentoring relationship active and ensure ongoing support. 9. Show Gratitude: Express gratitude and appreciation for your mentor's time, guidance, and support. Acknowledge the impact they have had on your growth and development. A simple thank you or a small gesture of appreciation can go a long way in maintaining a positive and fruitful mentoring relationship The Connecticut Association of Healthcare Executives (CTAHE) & Holly-Jo Eldridge, RDH, BS, MSHA & Alessandra Cornelio thanks for organizing the event!! Can’t wait for the next one !
