🎉 Happy Friday! Boise Brewers vs. Wastewater Bills! 🍻💧 Boise’s brewing scene is thriving—but local brewers are feeling the heat, and it’s not just from their hops! 🌾 A debate over wastewater bills has them worried, as proposed rate increases could impact their bottom line. With wastewater treatment costs rising, brewing companies are concerned about how these changes might affect production expenses. Balancing growth and infrastructure is a tricky task—how would you manage these costs if you were running a brewery? Read more about it here: A Battle Is Brewing in Boise Over Wastewater Bills #BrewingTroubles #BoiseBrewers #WastewaterDebate #UtilityBills #FridayFun #WaterInfrastructure #SmallBusinessChallenges

A British brewery has become the first UK business to trial a new type of heat pump which is said to cut emissions by up to 90 per cent. Sussex-based Hepworth Brewery is using a Greensteam heat pump, developed by Surbiton start-up Futraheat, to deliver low-carbon heat to fuel the brewing process. Unlike most heat pumps, which deliver hot water up to around 80°C, the Futraheat heat pump can produce steam up to 130°C – vital for the brewing industry and said to be a first for the UK. According to Hepworth Brewery, the new heat pump is expected to reduce the energy consumption and carbon emissions associated with wort boiling by up to 90 per cent, whilst lowering fuel costs by up to 40 per cent, with potential to roll out the technology across the whole brewing process. 🍻 Brewing Beer + 🪰 Farming Insects = Increased Margins & Circular Economy System Clayton Payne and I sit down (AGAIN) to discuss our latest report, which explores the integration of Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) production in the UK brewing industry. *TLDR:* 🌍 Current Challenges: The UK brewing industry faces waste management hurdles, especially with brewers' spent grain (BSG) and yeast disposal. Traditional methods contribute to environmental concerns and inefficient resource utilisation. 🔄 Paradigm Shift with BSFL: BSFL integration offers a revolutionary solution, transforming brewing waste into high-value protein. This approach ensures rapid and effective waste utilisation, turning disposal challenges into valuable commodities. 💡 Benefits: 1. Economic: Increasing margins p/ton by converting spent grain - and other organic outputs - into insect protein. 2. Sustainability: Breweries can save up to 513 kg CO2 per ton on landfilled co-products, helping reach ESG targets. 🍻 BrewDog 'Lost' beer as a Consumer Demand Indicator: Explore how changing consumer preferences, as seen with BrewDog's 'Lost' beer, align with the need for sustainable brewing practices. 🌿 Conclusion: The symbiotic relationship between BSFL production and the UK brewing industry promises lasting positive impacts. Adopting BSFL technology is a strategic and forward-thinking approach, managing waste efficiently while elevating it to a valuable resource. 🚀 Call to Action: Urging widespread adoption of BSFL technology, not just as a waste management solution but as a catalyst for a sustainable brewing industry. Further on-site UK brewery research is crucial. ---------------------------- Find more 👉 https://lnkd.in/e8HMCDwW Full Report 👉 https://lnkd.in/e2sJ5wBJ Contact me if you're interested in acquiring BSF, exploring collaboration opportunities, forming partnerships, investing in our endeavours, or simply gaining insights into our initiatives! #BSF #InsectFarming #SustainableProtein #innovation #sustainable #climatechange #CircularEconomy #BeerInnovation #startupgrowth #CraftBrewing The Bug Factory https://lnkd.in/eaJ_tw-9

ETG Coffee has embarked on a sustainability initiative to implement net-zero carbon interventions and improve farmer livelihoods, supported by the AGRI3 Fund technical assistance facility, managed by IDH . The ‘Change Brewing’ project aims to advance Carbon-Low coffee in Robusta growing regions in #uganda by: 🌳 Training on regenerative agriculture 🌱 Distributing shade tree seedlings for agroforestry 🔥 Improving soil health using biochar and bio-slurry innovations 💵 Creating Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs) and training on GALS 🧑🏾🏫 Establishing youth groups to implement climate-smart practices Rikolto supports implementation and the NGI - Norwegian Geotechnical Institute is running R&D on proof of concept trials to measure the effects of biochar and bio-slurry on soil quality and their potential for carbon sequestration. By supporting 2,000 smallholder farmers in the Greater Masaka region, the 1.5 year project aims to enhance climate change resilience, improve coffee yields, and increase farmer incomes.
