Construction is now underway for the latest renovation at the Des Plaines Public Library, first designed by Lohan Associates and built in 2000 with updates completed over the years. The Library has set up a blog on their website to inform their patrons about the project and track the progress. We look forward to the finished improvements in a few months being completed by Troop Contracting. #lohanarchitecture #architecture #libraries #librarydesign #dppl #troop

At 685 new homes, The Phoenix unlocks one of the largest housing allocation sites in the South Downs National Park. Importantly the tenure mix will include over 200 affordable homes of which 92 will be Lewes Low-Cost Affordable Rent (linked to median income not the market). The masterplan's plot ratio is similar to the local plan reference scheme and is equivalent to the existing town centre. The scale of the project’s edges has been carefully modulated to address the existing context including the Conservation Area(s) and The Pells. Seen from Wiley’s Bridge, this image shows the varied waterfront character with @ashsakulaarchitects’s Parcel 1 buildings in the foreground and one of the larger courtyard blocks to the mid-ground towards the left of the image. Find out more about the masterplan, link in bio. Image by Periscope for Human Nature, Phase 1 Architecture by Ash Sakula Architects. Landscape architecture reframes an urban industrial site into a vibrant public realm. At Camp North End, the design reclaims the native environment by letting the landscape grow intentionally and overlays authentic placemaking to create a unique urban experience. D is for Doric! In this week's edition of the A-Z of historic buildings, I give some thought to this strange style of architecture. The idea is that it is based on the proportions of 'man' and petrified wood, which isn't necessarily convincing, but it is a nice story. Illustrated with the sublime but now-lost Euston Arch, a stark reminder for anyone who is interested in historic architecture. https://lnkd.in/e7pmjDfE

Why We Don't Build Beautifully An interesting and thought provoking article about the shortcoming of modern architecture and why new buildings and today's built environment does not look as nice as buildings in the past. Why are buildings today simple and austere, while buildings of the past were ornate and elaborately ornamented? The answer is not the cost of labor. https://lnkd.in/eu2GUiDw 30douthat-newsletter-superJumbo.png

Principal at Oasis Designs Inc. Free thinker. Urban space and Public realm Specialist. ..interested in figuring out solutions to wicked urban problems...
Not coming from any camp ...I guess I can say it ! And these thoughts are completely mine A lot has been said about the bare concrete of the sabarmati riverfront .....but not much about another concrete lump Premabhai hall in front of Bhadra fort is not architecturally suitable to the space , to say it very mildly ....firstly it hides the beautiful and delicate architecture of the fort .....which surely needed a large space to see it from ....secondly it does not reflect the scale or intricacy of it's context ... The brutalist modern architecture hall does not offset the fort...to enhance or showcase its heritage like other modernist architecture does in say Europe .... The hall simply hides the main feature of the site and completely overwhelms the entire precinct ....this results in the space going into a cycle of positive feedback loop...ie a space making no sense, the best part hidden , so a backyard, so dirty , so used negatively n so forth ... The fact that it has been closed for so many years anyway and considering the life of concrete is 60-70 years ...the hall can be brought down creating a public square in front of the fort ....this will help the space and the precinct and infuse positivity ... Though most people don't like it , but as it has been designed by one of the best architects of our country, people remain quiet ..... But this is at what cost ?
