Looking for 5 front-end engineers with React experience interested to join our rockstar team at Bird as early next week (but week after is also fine 😜). You'll be each joining a two-pizza team working with experienced FE & BE engineers and will be super empowered to ship fast, getting our ambitious product roadmap in the hands of customers fast just like you'd typically do at a startup. We love working with talented folks with no ego, super collaborative, curious mind, eager & hungry. Major bonus points if you also bring design chops. Totally ok if you're early in your career! Send me an email on [email protected] demonstrating your ability (either a personal Github repo you have contributed to, a recording of you showcasing a product you have worked on or anything else really that shows us above!) and let's make magic happen! No agencies pls! Remote is ok but EMEA/LATAM is ideal UPDATE March 27 19:00 CET: We are reviewing 100+ applications now and Alex Shackleton will reach out to qualifying candidates Thursday 28th. The current plan is to organize 2 days of interviewing on Monday and Tuesday next week (or Tuesday and Wednesday tbd) and interview all relevant candidates in one go. Look out for an email.

In the month of love, software engineers find themselves amidst a symphony of algorithms and affection. As they navigate through lines of code, their hearts beat in unison with the rhythmic hum of processors. Amongst the binary digits and debugging sessions, they discover the beauty of companionship, sharing late nights of coding and cozy moments of reflection. (Thanks ChatGPT 😉) Not feeling the love at your workplace? Connect with Samantha-Leigh Hayward around our requirements and let's make the right match. 🫶🏼 #hiring #remote #React #Javascript

Software Engineer 2 @ Amazon | Ex-Google, Ex-Flipkart, Ex-ThoughtWorks | Expert @ [Python, Django, JavaScript, TypeScript, React.js, React Native, Vue.js, PWA, Node.js, Firebase, AWS, System Design, GenAI, AR/VR]
This seemed to be an interesting discussion to have. See, there will be supporter and haters for both sides of the story. Some might say, DSA is the key. Some would say, PROJECTS are the key. Few may be choose to focus on DOM, JS, TS things. Others may rely on Framework specifc things. etc. I mean, you get the point, right? But, are there any absolute correct answer to this? Perhaps, not really. In my opinion, I think, everything is interconnected in someway or the other. For me, A good problem solver is someone who can understand and explain the key aspects of the problem while asking the right questions to eventually get to answer that works. Then remain agile to iterate and improve it along the way. Ultimately, Most core concepts do exist in either side of the story, e.g. BE folks talk about RateLimiting, FE would talk about Debouncing. But, How do you assess? Ah, that's the hard and subjective part. I'll put it like this, (Assuming I'm hiring an SDE/FE) a. Can you convert your thoughts into code reliably? b. Can you convey what are you thinking? c. Can you navigate through an ambiguous situation by asking the right questions? d. Do you at least have the underlying concepts clear? e. Can you stay humble and patient during this? --- Similarly, let me ask you a question, what is React JS? a library written in JS to make life easier. But do you know the basic nuances or patterns in JS? Okay you got the JS bit. Awesome! Do you understand the issues it can cause and how things work in your layer of abstraction ( in this case it's react)? Do you know your tools? Do you know your environment? --- Now I'm not saying that one has to know everything, and therefore it's just a guideline that i choose to follow to bring objectivity into this highly subjective topic. It's not perfect, it never will be. Yet, isn't that what make it a guideline instead of a set of Rules? Thoughts? Neha Bhargava Akshay Saini 🚀 Ben Awad
As a senior engineer, I interview frontend developers regularly. This is my approach to hiring: ►I don’t spend my time asking about: - advanced and complex topics - frameworks - libraries In my experience, I’ve found prioritizing core skills over specific frameworks or libraries works best. My focus goes to core skills and fundamentals like Vanilla Javascript. If the candidate can answer my questions about: - DOM manipulation, Event bubbling - Prototypes, Functional programming, ES6 features, etc. I would onboard them. Why? It’s simple. Developers with strong fundamentals can learn and adapt without going back to basics repeatedly and save time and effort. For a frontend developer, solid basics of Javascript are a must-have to start with.

JavaScript is the soul of web dev, the body would be frameworks on top of it.
If I ever start hiring for frontend developers, I would do this: I will never ask them about frameworks/libraries or Leetcode or anything advanced. I would simply grill them on 1 thing i.e. Vanilla Javascript. Nothing more. If one could answer my questions on DOM manipulation, Event bubbling, Prototypes, Functional programming, ES6 features, etc. I would be more than happy to hire them on my team. Why? Developers with a strong core can learn and adapt to everything without going back to the basics again and again. Not just me, many companies hire frontend developers like this. Good basics of Javascript is everything.
