September's topic: Creativity ******** 6. Creativity as a Path to Serenity Dear Green Heart Warriors, have you ever noticed how engaging in creative expression often brings a sense of peace? Many art therapists have long recognized the power of creativity in therapeutic processes. Creativity helps us process stress, emotional tension, and anxiety. Each moment spent immersed in the creative process brings us closer to a calm, centered state, allowing us to release what weighs us down. As we continue our exploration of creativity this month, let’s internalize that creativity is also about finding peace in the act of creation itself. Enjoy your weekend and please reflect on how can your creativity help you find serenity, dear Green Heart Warriors? ****** Ilustration: Andrea Uruburok

Creativity is the spark that ignites the soul, a passionate dance between mind and heart. It's the courage to venture into uncharted territories, embracing the unknown with an open embrace. In the face of failure, creativity persists, fueled by an insatiable curiosity and an unyielding determination to transform dreams into reality. As the renowned lyricist Javed Akhtar so eloquently penned: "दिलों में तुम अपनी बेताबियाँ लेके चल रहे हो, तो ज़िंदा हो तुम" (If you carry your restless passions in your heart, then you are truly alive) These words capture the essence of the creative spirit - a restless passion burning within, driving us forward on this exhilarating journey of self-discovery and expression. To be creative is to be alive in the truest sense. When imagination takes hold, the world fades away, and the artist becomes lost in a symphony of ideas, each note a brushstroke on the canvas of possibility. It's in these moments of introspection, when the mind wanders and the spirit roams free, that true magic is born.

UNQUESTIONED BELIEFS... One of the things I love more than anything is to allow people space to explore what is there before all the thinking, ideas, conditioning and rules that are ever present in the mind. It leads to incredible things; things that had seemed impossible before the exploration. One tangible way to do this is through the medium of art. How many of you have a story that you 'can't do art', that you're 'not creative' or any other flavour of that? I did! Until a few years ago I really believed that I wasn't creative. And so I obviously didn't put myself in situations where creativity might be required! Until one day I caught that thought. The "I'm not creative" one and got curious about it. What if it was made up? What if it wasn't true? What if it was an innocent misunderstanding - that I'd been told something at some point in my life and then made it mean that I wasn't creative? And those questions changed everything. For those of you who know me, you'll have seen the paintings that now get created. I'm an artist and I never knew it. What's more, I make an income from selling the art. And this would never have been possible if I'd lived with the unquestioned belief that I wasn't creative. So is it time to question your beliefs around creativity? If so there are a few ways I might be able to support you... 1) I'm running an art retreat with local Devon artist, Lucy Sheffield, in May and September. This is a beautiful space in which you can explore with no expectations or pressure. 2) On Thursday I'm doing a free Live talk on Insight Timer (an App for those who don't know - go and download it for free!) entitled "Creating 'Impossible' Things." In it I'll be exploring where creativity comes from and how the seemingly 'impossible' can become possible. 3) Book a complimentary, no strings attached 1:1 60 minute call with me to help you question your beliefs and open you up to more freedom and creativity. If any of these things interest you just drop a comment below or send me a private message.

I once read about a renowned artist who created his most celebrated work after retreating to a remote cabin, far from the noise and distractions of the city. For weeks, he disconnected from the artificial reality held in his palms – no phone, no internet, just the whispering trees, and his thoughts. In solitude, he found something extraordinary: clarity. The constant buzz of notifications and endless scroll of social media had clouded his mind. But in that serene cabin, creativity flowed like a river, unencumbered and free. Solitude is divine. It’s in these quiet moments, away from the chaos of our digital lives, that we can hear the gentle voice of inspiration. When was the last time you truly disconnected? Not just from your devices, but from the relentless demands of modern life? Here’s why embracing solitude can spark your creativity: - Without constant interruptions, your mind can wander freely, exploring new ideas and perspectives. - Solitude allows for introspection, helping you understand your true desires and passions. - With no distractions, you can dive deep into your creative work, producing quality over quantity. - Solitude brings a sense of calm, reducing stress and anxiety, which often block creative thinking. Next time you feel stuck or uninspired, try stepping away from the screens and noise. Find a quiet place, breathe, and let your mind roam. You might be surprised at the creative breakthroughs that ensue. Have you experienced a creative surge in solitude? Share your story with us!🌟

In our daily lives, we often feel constrained by the pressure to always be rational and sensible. This may be stifling & suffocating. However, true creativity thrives when we break free from these constraints and embrace the joy of simply doing things for the pleasure they bring. For someone like me, who loves to research to the base of subject matter, has a checklist to follow, other than being a creative enthu cutlet, this passage from an Editorial (I keep referring back to) comes across as a whiff of fresh air! “A technique called 'Exquisite Corpse' was created by one of the Surrealists, André Breton, to liberate the mind from logic and connect to the inner wisdom of the subconscious. An image is collectively assembled by a number of people. A person draws on a sheet, folds the paper to conceal the image, then passes it to the next person who continues it without seeing what has gone before; and so on. Participants draw without knowing the direction in which the others may develop the image. They sketch anything that comes to mind, in a stream-of-consciousness way, whether trivial, perceptive or weird. Only at the end is the whole bizarre image revealed.” The Surrealists sought out the nonsensical and absurd because it liberated the mind from logic. Ideas and thoughts flowed freely. Sometimes we need to STOP MAKING SENSE! #creativity #surrealism #work #play

The journey to finding true beauty is not an external quest but an exploration within. It's a profound realization that the more we discover and embrace our inner radiance, the less we rely on external validations. Imagine the transformation that unfolds when we shift the focus from the external to the internal. The beauty within is a reservoir of strength, resilience, and authenticity waiting to be unearthed. Too often, society conditions us to seek validation externally, fostering a perpetual and often elusive search for affirmation. However, the magic happens when we turn inward, recognizing the beauty that is uniquely ours. #InnerBeauty, #SelfExploration, #EmpowerYourself, #RadiantWithin, #AuthenticityJourney, #ReflectAndRise, #SelfDiscovery, #MindfulLiving, #BeautyFromWithin, #EmbraceYourself, #SelfLove, #Empowerment, #LoveYourselfFirst, #InnerStrength, #SoulfulLiving, #BeYourOwnKindOfBeautiful, #SelfValidation, #TransformativeJourney, #MindsetShift VC: Copyright to the respective video owner

Art therapy embodies Aristotle's insight: “The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.” In this therapeutic practice, creating art allows individuals to express deep emotions and experiences that words cannot fully capture. It’s not about aesthetic appeal but about uncovering hidden thoughts and feelings. By visualizing their inner worlds, clients gain insights, achieve personal growth, and enhance emotional well-being. Art therapy invites us to look beyond the surface and connect with our profound emotional landscapes. #ArtTherapy #HealingThroughArt #Aristotle #aristotle #aristotlequotes #arttherapist
