✨ This week I had the privilege of meeting a young professional switching careers. After bonding over our love for Ari's new album, I asked them what brought them to the industry mixer we were at. They told me they went back to school to study a different sector of the music industry, and are working at an internship (mind you, at a fantastic NYC org that has major impact in the creative community). After asking if they take class at night, they replied that they work at a store part-time as well while not in class or at the internship. I could sense in the moment they felt a "certain" reaction coming on, one perhaps of judgement that they have a third gig at a store.
My friend, you should be NOTHING but proud of yourself. (I. HATE. nose-snubbing culture that makes people feel like they need to put up their guard like that). Look, everyone puts their shoes on in the morning the same way, right?
✨ So along with the group of friends surrounding, we echoed a chorus of "That's fantastic! You are literally doing the most, and be proud of yourself!!" We talked about their aspirations, and exchanged contact numbers to support one-another.
✨ Between...an internship....class....and a part-time job, all I can do is send a round of applause to this individual for gaining experience in all areas of their life. Regardless of where that is.
✨ So, if you ever encounter someone who needs a bit of encouragement, and a reminder that they are a bad-a**, take a moment, and give it! Our professional journeys take twists and turns, and the LEAST we can do is pump someone up to remind them all they need is inside of them.
And of course, that 100% is possible 100% of the time.
I wish them nothing but success, and to be surrounded by people who lift them UP ☝ .
Happy Friday, everyone.
