Day 4 at the 71st Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity concluded with the prestigious Cannes Lions being awarded for the Brand Experience & Activation, Creative Business Transformation, Creative Commerce, Creative Effectiveness, Creative Strategy Innovation, and the newly introduced Luxury and Lifestyle Lions. The night also saw the Regional Network of the Year Awards announced. So grateful to have been able to build the long-term relationship with multi-talented dancer, host, and AAPI advocate @sheelaawe X Bacardi over the past 9 months through the Carta Collective. Here's how this team is doing it differently: 1. It's a LONG-TERM partnership formed around aligned values. 2. They prioritize building a real relationship, not a transactional one by making the time to check in on video calls throughout the entire partnership. 3. They care about Sheela outside of the program - they reached out to be integrated into Sheela's Lunar New Year MIXer. Again it's the authentic relationship that made Sheela feel supported and seen. 4. They build a community of like-minded creators that are now friends, collaborators, and Bacardi stans through the Carta Collective long-term program. 5. They create COOL creator-centric IRL experiences. Sheela went to Gov Ball and the VMA's this past year and they are programming and elevating even more for 2024. A lot of people in our industry will look at this and go: "Wow, a great TV ad", "Brilliant creative idea", "This can win so many awards", "They'll increase sales for sure" etc. ....Sadly, this narrow view does not cut it the world today. Because the true value behind a polished and well produced film is a story that matters. A story that the brand feels the need to tell, and the people feel the need to hear. A story that's a statement – whether written as a sentence or told as a two minute film. The impact it has is the same. And for a few of us, that is the main reason why after all these years in this industry, we still love doing what we do. This is what "branding" is really about. This is how a brand understands itself, the world around them, and is aware of the constant cultural changes society is going through. This is how a brand is relevant. Rightly or wrongly, we've all been grasped by this year's Paris Olympic Games. Amongst the sporting excellence, there has also been some corporate excellence in their own rights. Many brands have taken the opportunity of the global attention, to release brand films and commercials ahead of, and during the Games. One of these brands is The Coca-Cola Company, with their latest brand film "It's Magic When The World Comes Together". In this film, Coca Cola have done some amazing things. However, equally they have made some minor errors which could result in the loss of a big chunk of revenue. If every agency wins AdAge's A-list local/regional/national/international Agency of the Year gold, silver or bronze award every year, then NO agency actually wins AdAge's A-list local/regional/national/international Agency of the Year gold/silver/bronze award every year. (Especially when it's mostly based on getting creative with the numbers, not how creative the work actually is. Heck, I should start submitting my CPA for this award, he's WAY more creative than I am when it comes to adding and removing 0s.)
