In my little town, we have several fire companies. One, in particular, goes around to preschools and elementary schools in October (Fire Prevention Month) and gives talks to kids about preventing home fires. The Firefighter who does these presentations is locally famous, and her name is Firefighter Lisa. 🧯 Both my kids have heard her talk numerous times, and kids recognize her at the grocery store, etc. Anyway, I feel like Firefighter Lisa. And not just because we share a name. For the better part of 14 years, I have been helping parents fix their individual situation with their IEP. In other words, putting out fires. But I haven't taught enough parents how to prevent the fires--how to install smoke detectors, what the smoke detectors look like, and when to replace the batteries. It's a great analogy. 🔥 Because I put out the fire, most of it anyway. Then it starts up again in 2-5 years. As soon as situations change or personnel changes...I hear from the same families. And I grab the fire extinguisher and go put it out. In 2020, I changed my strategy. I'm going to teach you how I fight these fires. Not just how to put them out, but how to prevent them. How to recognize when it's smoldering, and get it before it's a huge dumpster inferno. 🧯 So far, we've taught 100s of parents. Join me, this is not to be missed: https://lnkd.in/e7HeqBdC

Kids can do some really silly things. 👧🏻 They climb on things they shouldn't. They ingest stuff that has no business being anywhere near their mouths. They put things like carrier bags over their heads when they... oh, you get the point. Thing is, children's safety is a big issue. There are many preventable accidents and incidents that result in injuries, or worse. With one small change, you can help stop a serious accident and keep them safe. 👷🏼♀️ This week is Child Safety Week, part of the Child Accident Prevention Trust's annual community education campaign. They're helping people manage risks to children's safety, so our children can grow and learn in your school with as little risk as possible. Let's all do our part to keep children safe in schools and beyond. 💙 #childsafety #riskprevention

Helped 3000+ Parents Create HAPPY HOMES | Certified Parenting Coach | Empowering parents to create strong, positive relationships with their children
Incidents like this make you think..."Who is responsible? A devastating incident occurred when a Nursery class boy brought a gun to school and shot a schoolmate in the 3rd class. Our hearts go out to the victim, the family, and the entire school community. As we grapple with the shock and horror of this event, we all must ask ourselves: Who/What is responsible?🎯 🤔The child who didn't understand the severity of their actions? 🤔The parents or guardians who didn't secure the firearm? 🤔The school administration who didn't have adequate safety measures in place? The answer is not simple, but one thing is clear: IT'S A COLLECTIVE FAILURE? We need to work together to: 👉Enhance school safety protocols. 👉Start building on thinking skills early on. 👉Teach boundaries to children from an early age. 👉Educate children about responsible behaviour. 👉Educate parents about catching them young to inculcate acceptable vs. non acceptable behaviour. Let's use this tragedy as a wake-up call to create a safer, more compassionate world for our children. WE ARE ALL TOGETHER INTO IT! What else must be done to avoid such incidents in future? #parenting #schoolsafety #collectiveresponsibility"

When you are a fire psychologist, your kids don’t know what to make of it. 😊 A: Are you a firefighter? K: No A: Are you a doctor? K: Yes A: Do you help people? K: Yes A: (He brings out play doctor kit.) Like this? K: No A: (Confused 🤨) K: We help like a teacher. We help with behavior. A: Like bad behavior and the sad chair? (Trouble) K: Sometimes. A: And good behavior like recess? K: Sometimes and we talk about hard things. A: Like numbers? K: Sometimes A: Do firefighters go to school? K: Yes. They even have their own school. (I’m imagining he has constructed a school of firefighters who always wear turn out gear in his mind.) Then, my four year old asks me to ask firefighters at their school what they think of his helmet and puts it in my work bag so I won’t forget. 😂
