Addressing the Intersection of Fentanyl and Suicide. Today is Suicide Prevention Day and it’s important to acknowledge the opioid crisis and mental health struggles. Fentanyl, a powerful opioid, has not only led to accidental overdoses but also contributed to intentional deaths. People who misuse opioids are more likely to suffer from mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. Opioid addiction can increase feelings of hopelessness and despair, which are risk factors for suicide. FENTANYL FACTS: ➡ 50 – 100 x more potent than morphine ➡ Fentanyl in the U.S. is produced in clandestine labs in China ➡ Fentanyl is one of the most lucrative businesses for the DRUG CARTELS ➡ Fentanyl brings in $50 BILLION annually to the Drug Cartels ➡ 100,000 have died from Fentanyl ➡ Fentanyl is involved in over two-thirds of opioid overdose deaths in the U.S. CLOSING THE BORDER would have a significant impact on reducing the flow of fentanyl into the U.S.
As Americans we have a responsibility to protect our children and the amount of deaths due to Fentanyl and Suicide do not show that is happening. 100,000 due to Fentanyl and 700,000 due to Suicide is tragic beyond words. Everyone suffers and it has impacted every demographic group in America.
