Confused by health insurance jargon? Don't worry, you're not alone. We're kicking off a glossary series to help you navigate the confusing terms and make informed decisions about your healthcare. Today's term is "deductible". Think of it like a membership fee. Each year, before your insurance kicks in, you pay a certain amount towards your medical expenses. That's your deductible. For example, if your deductible is $1,000, you'll pay the first $1,000 in medical costs each year before your insurance takes over. The upside? Once you've met your deductible, your insurance will start covering more of your healthcare costs. Stay tuned for more terms explained in plain English.
