Lower LDL cholesterol levels are not necessarily better. Instead, the ratio of triglycerides to HDL may be a more important predictor of mortality risk, study suggests. https://lnkd.in/dw9cEqq5 by Arkadi Mazin #aging #longevity #healthspan #lifespan Kevin Kip Suresh Mulukutla Oscar Marroquin

🚨 New Study Alert! 🚨 The lifetime risk of atrial fibrillation (Afib) has increased from one in four to one in three over the past two decades, according to a recent study from Denmark in The BMJ. Among those with Afib, two in five are likely to develop heart failure over their remaining lifetime, and one in five may encounter a stroke, with little or no improvement in risk evident over the 20-year study period. 👉🏼 Urgent action is required to implement prevention strategies to mitigate the risk of stroke and heart failure among individuals with atrial fibrillation. ⭐️ This should encompass science based nutrition that focuses on nutrient adequacy and addressing cardiometabolic risk factors like blood pressure, cholesterol, inflammation, and oxidative stress. Check out the full article for more insights into this critical issue: https://lnkd.in/eAPUR6Uq #HeartHealth #AtrialFibrillation #afib #afibdiet #afibawareness

We saw large blood pressure lowering effects from potassium-enriched salt in our 2021 trial in India https://lnkd.in/g2kfPWqE. One of the key challenges we face in increasing the use of potassium-enriched salt is concerns about causing hyperkalemia. While the risk of hyperkalemia is low for most, given that kidneys are very efficient in regulating potassium excretion, it is real for patients with advanced kidney disease. One way to avoid the problem is to focus on patients being treated for hypertension – where healthcare workers will know not to recommend potassium-enriched salt to those with advanced kidney disease and hence at risk. There are about 220 million people with hypertension in India and 1.3 billion worldwide. It is time to update our hypertension management guidelines so that potassium-enriched salt is considered an option for all #SwitchTheSalt https://lnkd.in/gyESqMar. The Cardiological Society of India has recently shared a few guidelines for dyslipidemia management, a silent killer with abnormal levels of lipids in the bloodstream. CSI shared the following guidelines: - Proactive management and early detection through non-fasting lipid measurements for risk assessment and treatment. - The first lipid profile should be taken at the age of 18 or earlier for children with a family history of heart disease. - High-risk patients should aim for should aim for LDL-C levels below 55 mg/dL or non-HDL levels below 85 mg/dL. - Lifestyle modifications are important in dyslipidemia management, advocating for dietary adjustments focused on reducing sugar and carbohydrate intake. https://lnkd.in/gBTYnvQi #CSI #Guidelines #Dyslipidemia #Hearthealth #Healthyheart

To minimize the risk of dyslipidemia and its effective management, the Cardiological Society of India has issued new guidelines. For low-risk individuals, maintaining LDL-C levels below 100 mg/dL and non-HDL-C levels below 130 mg/dL is recommended. High-risk individuals, such as those with diabetes or hypertension, should target LDL-C below 70 mg/dL and non-HDL below 100 mg/dL. The guidelines also recommend regular physical exercise, lifestyle modifications, and a nutritious diet as a must to protect cardiac health. https://lnkd.in/gFJeB4PQ #CSI #Guidelines #Dyslipidemia #Hearthealth #Healthyheart

#Similarities and #Differences of #New-#Onset #Hyperglycemia #Secondary to #Different #Types of #Acute #Pancreatitis A #review article written by ✍ Li Tuo #Abstract With the increasing incidence of acute pancreatitis (AP), new-onset hyperglycemia (#prediabetes and #diabetes) secondary to AP attracts more attention as one of #chronic complications.... #Introduction Acute pancreatitis (AP) is one of the most common #digestive emergencies worldwide, with global incidence rate increasing.... #Exogenous #factors Numerous exogenous risk factors for cholesterol gallstones have been reported. Specifically, the formation of #cholesterol stones is profoundly affected by abnormal #metabolism, including obesity (particularly central adiposity), physical inactivity and #nonalcoholic fatty liver disease... #Discussion This review shows that the incidence rates of new-onset #hyperglycemia after AAP, ABP and HTGAP attack are different, with 46.9% of HTGAP highest, followed by 34.5% of AAP and 18.3% of ABP.... In summary, the incidence rates of new-onset hyperglycemia after distinct AP with distinct #etiologies are different. Hence, focusing on the risk factors of different etiologies..... The study investigated the effects of subclinical hypothyroidism on insulin resistance in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus and those without. Of the 622 people with diabetes and 621 without (normoglycemic), the prevalence of thyroid dysfunction was higher in the diabetes group. Specifically, subclinical hypothyroidism was most prevalent at 14.95%. In normoglycemic individuals with subclinical hypothyroidism, measures like BMI, waist-hip ratio, and HOMA-IR were significantly higher than in those with normal thyroid function. However, this difference was not observed in the diabetes groups. As thyroid feedback quantile index value increased, various metabolic parameters also shifted. The study concluded that subclinical hypothyroidism increases insulin resistance in those with normal blood glucose levels. Furthermore, reduced thyroid hormone sensitivity correlates with the risk of diabetes, highlighting the intertwined relationship between thyroid function and glucose metabolism. This understanding may influence the treatment and understanding of thyroid disease and diabetes. --- Journal: Front.
