Celebrating International Biodiversity Day: "Be Part of the Plan" International Biodiversity Day provides an opportunity to celebrate the intricate web of life on Earth—biodiversity. The theme for 2024, “Be Part of the Plan,” serves as a call to action for all stakeholders to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by supporting the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, also known as The Biodiversity Plan. Biodiversity Under Threat: Biodiversity is in crisis. Over the past 50 years, wildlife populations have plummeted by 69%. Alarmingly, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) reports that 1 million species are facing imminent extinction. Human activities have already drastically altered three-quarters of the Earth's land and approximately 66% of its oceans. A Collective Responsibility: Addressing an issue as monumental and urgent as nature loss necessitates comprehensive change across all sectors of society. Every individual and organization—whether in government, the private sector, academia, or as private citizens—has a crucial role to play. Goumbook’s Role: At the heart of Goumbook is a spirit of collaboration, aimed at bringing together diverse stakeholder groups to tackle these global challenges on a local level. By fostering partnerships and encouraging shared responsibility, Goumbook is dedicated to contributing to the global efforts to preserve and restore our planet's biodiversity. Join us in celebrating #InternationalDayforBiodiversity 2024 by being part of the plan to protect our natural world for future generations. Together, we can make a difference. #Biodiversity #Goumbook #MENAoceans #TreesMatter #SaveTheButts #RegenerativeAgriculture #PartofThePlan #BiodiversityPlan

Veolia Water Technologies LATAM
🌿 Biodiversity is such a commitment for Veolia, that we will be present with the pledge act4nature international at COP16 Colombia done by UN Biodiversity 🌺 The Conference of the Parties (COP) on biodiversity is an international event organized by the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). Launched in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, the CBD aims to protect global biodiversity. Its main goal is to negotiate and adopt agreements to preserve biodiversity, promote its sustainable use, and ensure fair sharing of benefits arising from genetic resources. Among the notable achievements, we can mention: - The Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (2000) - The Aichi Biodiversity Targets (2010) - The Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit-Sharing (2010) - The adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (2022) ⏰ Despite these agreements, implementation remains a challenge, and biodiversity loss continues at an alarming rate. #COP16Colombia, which will be held from 🗓️ October 21 to November 1, 2024, in Cali, Colombia, will primarily aim to review the progress made in implementing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework adopted at COP15. 🌎 It will also aim to strengthen countries' commitments and accelerate global action to achieve the set targets, including the goal to protect 30% of lands and seas by 2030. 👉 Join the event: https://lnkd.in/d4M2gsCa Judith Buelvas Pérez Jean Pierre M.Veolia Water Technologies #COP16Colombia #PeaceWithNature #Biodiversity

We’re proud to be a forum member of the Biodiversity Credit Alliance who've released this great resource. Download: https://lnkd.in/evDScNCY This pivotal issue paper contributes to the clarification of concepts and language which are instrumental in the process of developing an inclusive and high-integrity market in biodiversity credits. In the rapidly emerging world of ecological units and markets, all stakeholders need to speak the same language. This issue paper brings together many perspectives to present an inclusive but clear definition that sets minimum standards for biodiversity credits and projects associated with them. Wilderlands have developed one of the world’s first voluntary biodiversity credits and sold over 100,000 units since launching in August 2022. The Biological Diversity Unit (BDU) represents a 1sqm plot of permanently-protected and actively managed land in high ecological value projects across Australia. Each unit is geotagged to enable supporters to track their impact through their personal profile, receive regular reports from expert ecologists on the ground and watch as nature flourishes thanks to their support. Learn more about Wilderlands: www.wilderlands.earth We welcome reports such as these that helps provide clarity and consistency as this burgeoning biodiversity market evolves and applaud the many leaders who contributed to this who also form part of the BCA community including Tim Coles and Dan Exton, Sean Weaver, Mariana Sarmiento, Simon Morgan, Paul Jepson, Gaurav Gupta, Timothy Male, Erika Korosi), Zoe Balmforth, and Laura Waterford.

How to define a biodiversity credit? A pertinent and relevant question as this nascent area of nature finance might have started with the best of intentions, yet it has been criticized by many for not really succeeding in helping biodiversity. In order to avoid a false start, the Biodiversity Credit Alliance published a paper with the aim of focusing on the types of lower-risk credits, methodologies, and systems that are most likely to be successful in the early years of biodiversity crediting. This instructive paper contributes to the clarification of concepts and language which are instrumental in the process of developing a much-needed inclusive and high-integrity market in biodiversity credits. In sum, a #biodiversity credit is defined as a certificate that represents a measured and evidence-based unit of positive biodiversity outcome that is durable and additional to what would have otherwise occurred. While buyers may want - and ecosystems may require - one or more metrics that are specific or customized to a set of projects, there is also a need for at least some metrics and measurements to be comparable between projects, because this will allow investors to understand the different claims they can make regarding alternative investments and allow validation and verification bodies to understand how various crediting methodologies are performing. Our gratitude to the lead authors, especially to Mariana Sarmiento at Terrasos; Gaurav Gupta at the UNDP; Tim Coles and Dan Exton at rePLANET; Sean Weaver at Ekos; Simon Morgan at ValueNature; Paul Jepson at CreditNature; and Laura Waterford at Pollination, for this invaluable contribution. In the rapidly emerging world of ecological units and markets, all stakeholders indeed need to speak the same language! 🙏🏽🌍🌳 See full paper below, or download in the following link: https://lnkd.in/evDScNCY

Be #PartOfThePlan! 🌍 What does the 2024 International Day for Biodiversity Mean to You?🌳 🐋 In December 2022, the landmark Biodiversity Plan (Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework) was adopted to reverse the loss of nature by 2050. This year, the United Nations' International Day for Biodiversity is a global call for action to encourage everyone to be #PartOfThePlan. As part of our mission to create a better world for future generations, ASUENE is proud to join the global community in advancing biodiversity protection. 🐝 🌿 This year, the 2024 UN Biodiversity Conference (COP 16 CBD) will be held in Colombia from 21 October to 1 November 2024! 🚀 🗓️ The three focus areas are: - Translating the Biodiversity Plan into national actions: Parties have to demonstrate how their National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) align with the Biodiversity Plan. 🎯 - Mobilize and bolster the means of implementation: Key priorities include closing the financing gaps and making implementation tools accessible to all countries. 🌐 - Accelerate progress on access and benefit-sharing: Parties are expected to agree on how genetic resources can be shared fairly and equitably. 🤝 Did you know? Investors care about biodiversity: A study published this year surveyed 832 global companies from different sectors from 2011-2020 indicated that institutional investors, especially those with long‐term investment horizons, are interested in companies’ biodiversity commitments. Through their representatives on the board, these investors have requested information on biodiversity initiatives. 💬 🌱 Why global biodiversity trends matter for companies: Another study indicates that investors have started to ask for a risk premium in light of uncertainty associated with emerging biodiversity regulations. By examining a large sample of international stocks, the researchers found negative stock price reactions for companies with large biodiversity footprints following the Kunming Declaration and the launch of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures. 📢 📈 What role do you want to play as #PartOfThePlan? Join us in making a difference for our planet's future! 🌍 🌸 #PartOfThePlan #InternationalDayForBiodiversity #biodiversity #sustainability #climatechange
