Robert J. Gallo 1935 – 2024 Robert J. Gallo (Bob), former GALLO Board co-chairman and GALLO co-president, was devoted to his family. He was at the forefront of GALLO’s commitment to sustainable agriculture. Under his leadership, GALLO worked collaboratively with the Wine Institute and the California Association of Winegrape Growers to draft and implement the Code of Sustainable Wine Growing Practices. “My uncle was a steward of the environment and industry. Because of his involvement and leadership, our business and industry are well-positioned for the future. It’s due to his passion that thousands of acres of land are preserved as wildlife habitats, and a lasting foundation of philanthropy has been created to live on as his and Marie’s legacy.” - Ernest J. Gallo, Chief Executive Officer
A legend in the industry! I had the pleasure of managing a 6 month On Premise field marketing program in Chicago for one the brands in the company portfolio. What an invotor in the wine industry! Prayers and thoughts to his loved ones during this time.
We at Oregon State University and in the Oregon State University Foundation send our condolences to the immediate and extended Gallo family, including the employees at GALLO. We are proud to count Mr. Gallo, ’56, his late sister Susan Coleman , ’58, and her husband, OSU Foundation Lifetime Trustee Jim Coleman, ’58, as OSU alumni. We are grateful for their lifetimes of exemplary philanthropy and volunteer service, in addition to their leadership in the #wine industry and in their community.
He was such a lovely and kind man. A true icon. He will be missed.
Bob held us to the highest of standards for product quality continuing his father’s mission and I’m grateful to have known him. My sincerest condolences to all of his family.
Great father. Great leader. Great person who will live on with the thousands he impacted.
At times like this, we are often compelled to say: “May his memory be a blessing.” In Bob’s case, we all know that it already is. R.I.P. Mr. Gallo.

3moAlthough I never met the man, and only saw the helicopter flying over the job site from time to time, I am very proud to have been involved in a small part of this legacy in CA and the wine industry. The Gallo team and individuals I worked with are surely a mirror of his character and passion for the family business. My sincere condolences go out to those of you who allowed me to share in that vision and work under his guiding command. Rest in peace Mr. Gallo.
