Really love this episode! Listen to find out how honoring the history and culture of a place can elevate your commercial real estate properties. #artandculture #builtenvironment #honorhistory
"You can honor history, but you can't recreate it," says Ferd Belz, President of the 120-year old real estate development firm Fulenwider - L.C. Fulenwider, Inc. whose influence can be felt throughout much of the Denver metropolitan area and beyond. As a longtime real estate leader, Ferd shares his philosophy that the best projects are those that honor the history of a site and fit into the current-day context instead of trying to dominate over it. Tune into the episode at the link below to learn how art, architecture, and design can be used to authentically reference the character of a place rather than overtly recreate it. https://lnkd.in/gYXfQwPU #placemaking #history #civicfabric #CRE #Denver

"For Sno-Isle Libraries' reimagined Edmonds Library, we designed and constructed a floor-to-ceiling installation with 3,220 holes lit by individual LED lights, similar to a giant Lite-Brite toy. JA Design Technologist and Associate Shane Leaman designed custom circuit boards to connect the 1,088 magnetic sensors behind the board, which sense when acrylic pegs embedded with a small magnet are inserted into the lower holes. When these pegs are inserted into the wall, the program responds using those LED lights in a myriad of ways." - Jack Chaffin, JA Partner https://lnkd.in/gcJp4uY8 #librarydesign #libraryarchitecture #libraryscience #libraryprogramming #librarians #childrenslibrary #earlyliteracy #welovelibraries #earlylearning #kidslibrary #digitalintegration #activeplayelement #activelearning #snoislelibraries #edmondslibrary #washingtonlibraries #communitylibrary #publiclibrary #libraryremodel #libraryrenovation #libraryupgrade

This recent article from The Christian Science Monitor on Destination Crenshaw highlights the need for cultural design and intentional public/private investments -- something so necessary can feel like gentrification if we collectively turn our back on what improvement is needed for the people living in our communities today. Surviving or flourishing is our choice. Crenshaw chooses FLOURSHING.
Sharing some of The Christian Science Monitor's recent article on Destination Crenshaw, "From overlooked to must-see. LA community’s big statement with Black-centered art." “These things are so tied intrinsically together, the money with the architecture with the benefit of the community,” says Valery Augustin, AIA, an architect and assistant professor at the University of Southern California. “You need that investment for communities to stay places that people want to go to. And if people won’t invest in communities, then your built areas can’t possibly thrive.” We could not agree more. https://lnkd.in/ee5sTh_H

Helping people get more from technology. Always on the lookout for interesting people to have a coffee with.
I've known John V Willshire for over a decade, having first met at Silicon Beach in Bournemouth in 2013. He's one of the most fascinating thinkers I know. This is his latest talk. In it, he explores why design is not a superpower, how information is like light, not liquid, how you need to show people the system to help them change it, and how he has gone about rewilding his entire neighbourhood. It's a highly recommended 30 minutes. https://lnkd.in/eZ5NWJvM
