Honoring Juneteenth: A Commitment to Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace. Today, as we observe Juneteenth, we acknowledge a pivotal moment in #AmericanHistory — the day in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their #freedom, marking a significant step towards #equality. Juneteenth is more than a historical milestone; it’s a powerful reminder of the ongoing journey toward #justice and #equity. In our professional lives, it serves as an important touchstone for the values we strive to uphold in our workplaces: #diversity, #inclusion, and #respect for all #voices. Here are a few ways we can honor Juneteenth within our professional communities: 1.) Educate and Reflect: Take time to learn about the history and significance of Juneteenth. Encourage team discussions and share resources highlighting African Americans' contributions and experiences. 2) Promote Inclusive Practices: Review and reinforce policies that support diversity and inclusion. Ensure that your workplace is one where every individual feels valued and heard. 3) Support Black-Owned Businesses: Use this opportunity to support #BlackEntrepreneurs and #BlackOwnedBusinesses. This not only strengthens economic equity but also fosters a more inclusive market. 4) Engage in Community Service: Participate in or organize community service initiatives that support #SocialJustice causes. This can be a meaningful way to give back and show #solidarity. By commemorating Juneteenth, we reaffirm our dedication to creating workplaces that are not only #diverse but also #equitable and #inclusive. Let’s continue championing these #values daily, driving positive #change within our organizations and beyond. Happy Juneteenth! #Juneteenth #WorkplaceInclusion #DiversityAndInclusion #ProfessionalGrowth #EquityInAction #CommunityEngagement

“America is supposed to be a nation where one has the #freedom to achieve, the freedom to earn, and the freedom to prosper.” Arian Simone https://lnkd.in/ePvFm8De "Access to higher #education, financial stability, #law, government service, and #philanthropy: the intentional targeting of these domains is not accidental. The right is going after these institutions because they have been some of the critical launching pads to success for people of color, immigrants, and others excluded from corridors of #power. The heavily funded, concerted effort against #diversity, #equity, and #inclusion programs is as predictable as it is deeply disheartening. Foundation leaders who value diversity, equity, and inclusion must strategize and communicate with each other on how to pool their #resources to counter the organized assault. Foundations must not be bullied into inaction out of fear... Funders should instead strengthen their commitments in this moment of increased need — and they should do so loudly, boldly, and fearlessly." Reflecting After Independence Day: A Sobering Reality As we move past the celebrations of Independence Day, I can’t help but reflect on what true freedom really means for us today. Over the past few days, I’ve seen countless posts celebrating our national flag and expressing pride in our country. But amidst the patriotism, a sobering thought lingers—how can we truly celebrate when our girls are still not safe in this country? Independence is not just about our historical freedom from colonial rule. It’s about the freedom to live without fear, to walk our streets safely, and to exist with dignity. Until every girl in this country feels secure, can we honestly say we are truly independent? Do you agree that safety is a fundamental right we must all fight for? Let’s use this moment to reflect on whether we've achieved real independence for everyone in our society. This isn’t just a time for pride; it’s a time for serious introspection and action. #PostIndependenceDay #FreedomForAll #SafetyForWomen #TimeForChange

American freedom🇺🇸 embodies the belief that individuals have the power to shape their own destinies. Rooted in the concept of personal agency, this principle underscores the idea that one's choices and efforts can lead to success and fulfillment. This ethos has fueled a culture of innovation, entrepreneurship, and the pursuit of individual dreams across the diverse tapestry of American society.🗽 Vigilant citizenship involves holding governments accountable to ensure transparency and the protection of individual rights. Preserving a republic demands an active citizenry, as Benjamin Franklin emphasized when he said, “A republic, if you can keep it.” As Americans it is our responsibility to safeguard freedom by ensuring the government remains transparent and responsive. The people are speaking, but the parties are not listening. No one wants a 2020 rematch or a 2016 repeat. Give the voters real choices. #IndependentVoices #UnaffiliatedVoters #NonpartisanChoice #VoteYourValues #BeyondPartyLines #PeopleOverPolitics #FreeThinkersVote #NoPartyAgenda #VoteIndependent #ElectionIndependence #CitizenFirst #ChoosePrinciples #BeyondRedAndBlue #IndependentMinds #VoteWithoutLabels

A little-known fact is that the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863, the pivotal event that Juneteenth marks, did not actually free all slaves. In fact, Juneteenth represents a date that happened over two years later when Union troops finally freed slaves in Texas. The Emancipation Proclamation declared all enslaved people to be freed, but this was not enforced in many Confederate states until the end of the Civil War. Many enslaved people in Confederate states had no idea this decree had been issued. This led them to be taken advantage of for another two years until the news spread, and former slaves began to escape and find freedom in neighboring states. Juneteenth is a celebration of the Union Army’s abolishment of the last bastion of slavery in the United States. Slavery was then formally abolished in the United States with the ratification of the 13th Amendment on December 6, 1865. In celebrating Juneteenth, it is also essential to recognize that while this was the end of legal slavery in the United States, it was only the beginning of an arduous and ongoing struggle for racial equity. #juneteenth #emancipationproclamation #community #unity #equity #inclusion
