Award winning Sustainable Design Consultant. Striving towards a Regenerative Built Environment | ESG | WELL | Net Zero Carbon + | Circular Economy | Social Value | Resilience
It was a brilliant and informative day at the Structural Timber Conference. I was delighted to be on the Circular Economy panel so I could say #demolitionisadirtyword once again 😄 (albeit I don't know if I said that exactly) Barriers to structural timber highlighted from the case study speakers that we need to blast through: • Fire nervousness (especially with multistorey) • For one off housing clients it is the damaging history of poorly performing 60/70s housing with moisture issues • Perception of difficulty in relation to fire insurance etc. • Commerciality/ perception of high costs The way we succeed: • Share learnings/case studies • Design for timber from inception • Recognise that timber isn't suitable in every instance ie.flat roofs, spaces with high humidity. • By bringing the wider supply chain in earlier (subcontractors, insurers and fire engineers) Side note: best conference food I have ever had! Shout out for the caterers!
Wow! What an incredible day it’s been at 30 Euston Square in London for the #StructuralTimberConference! A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone that participated in the event! Some say we don't learn from history. While I believe that's partially true, I also believe that our industry endeavors to do just that, learn from our past. Case studies are one of my favorite parts of technical conferences. Two full sessions of them at the #tmwc23. #tailingsmanagement #tailingsdamconstruction #civilengineering #environmentalengineering #minedesign

🏗️ "KOPE is an acronym for Kit of Products Engine - a cool name for a transformative concept." We are glad to share the latest video from our Annual Conference 2023, a keynote address featuring David Flynn, discussing "KOPE" and the future of construction. With a background as an architectural technologist and founder of DesignTech, David delves into prefabrication and off-site construction, underscoring the importance of computational and generative design in eliminating wasteful processes in the design and construction industries. "We're building a software platform with a simple mechanism for the design world to engage in off-site construction easily," he said. This video is a goldmine for anyone in architecture, construction, or technology, offering a look into the future where digital innovation drives efficiency and sustainability. Speak up by Fri 1/19 for a key Red Line Parkway connector along Parmer Lane! Our Austin-area government for transportation planning, CAMPO, is leading a key study for Parmer Lane (FM 734). Parmer Lane is a critical corridor for the Red Line Parkway, since it has the potential to provide the only safe bike/ped access in the area, where none exists. Parmer Lane could also become an essential part of the Red Line Parkway itself until the trail is built through the large Robinson Ranch area just to the east of Parmer Lane. TAKE ACTION: This is such a critical moment to shape this area. Please take the following three quick steps, by this Friday, January 19th: 1. Visit the Parmer Lane open house: https://loom.ly/rkE92Ok 2. Take the survey: https://loom.ly/CS_EPeg 3. Leave comments on the interactive map: https://loom.ly/HTxaQQI In your survey responses, you can amplify our core request for the project: “Please provide a minimum of 12'-wide shared-use paths (for bike & walk traffic) separated from motor vehicle traffic by a solid barrier (such as guardrail or jersey barrier) on both sides of the highway.” Oftentimes, these surveys seem almost too easy and quick to complete, but please do follow through to help us complete the Red Line Parkway!

Senior Program Traffic Engineer at The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey | President at ITE Met Section
Registration is now open for the ITE Met Section's 12th Annual Technical Conference (August 1st) in NYC! Transforming Traffic Operations: Insights from the Street to the Design Desk - Enhancing Road Safety through Practitioner Input and Lessons Learned for Future Designs! Get ready for an electrifying conference where eight industry experts go head-to-head in a dynamic format reminiscent of a boxing match. We're dividing the event into two sessions, each featuring two rounds packed with action! During each round, a practitioner "the street" will share their firsthand experiences in implementing plans and designs in the real world. They'll address the hurdles they've faced, and the adjustments made to enhance both traffic flow and pedestrian safety. Following this, a planner/engineer "the desk" will offer a contrasting perspective, reflecting on the insights gained from working with practitioners and how they inform their strategic approach to planning and design. Our objective is to foster a deeper understanding among attendees, enabling us to collaboratively devise improved plans and designs that cater to the needs of all stakeholders and make us better practitioners, planners, and engineers.
