List: 23 people blocked from federal financial aid system (insidehighered.com) College administrators and university employees convicted of fraud are among the 23 people currently barred from participating in federal financial aid programs, according to a new public list from the Education Department. Department officials said in an online notice that the agency will update the list quarterly as part of an effort to deter misconduct, ensure program accountability and protect students and taxpayers. The department has taken several steps in the last few years to hold individuals personally accountable if their institution fails to operate in a financially responsible way. Twenty people connected with public, private nonprofit and for-profit colleges and universities are either suspended or debarred—a more permanent prohibition that can last up to three years or longer, depending on the circumstances—along with three others who aren’t affiliated with an institution.

In 2023, the average cost of tuition and fees at an in-state four-year public college is $9,377 per year, and the average cost at a four-year private college is $37,641 per year. These out-of-pocket costs are out of reach for many families, but especially low-income ones that may have trouble applying for or receiving financial aid. #EducationForAll #EndHomelessness #SupportEducation #HomelessStudents #EdTechhttps://lnkd.in/giWmmcQ4

Student resources. This is a topic I am incredibly passionate about, and I find in my conversations with students that they are unaware of everything they have access too. As a staff member, I ask myself, "How can we better market the resources available to our students?". I also ask, "Why aren't students asking for help or taking the time to search for resources themselves?". This topic is a catch-22. Universities share on their website, socials, emails, the resources available but sometimes, a student won't recognize they need help until it is too late. Regardless of the catch, this article found that at community colleges, "those who stopped out are not as familiar with support services offered by their institution, highlighting the need for colleges to expand and communicate about the available services to their students." This is an area all institutions whether 2-year, 4-year, graduate, should reassess. How are we making our resources known to the student? How can we do better? How can we set up this student, who has trusted us with their money, time, and future, for success? #highereducation #studentresources #marketing #business

It's essential to recognize the broader implications of the FAFSA issues on higher education access. While Secretary Cardona's efforts to provide prompt solutions are commendable, it's crucial to acknowledge the significant impact this delay will have on families and institutions, even with the best intentions of increasing aid. Student's aid can't be increased if schools don't have the time to process their FAFSA's.... Implications of the FAFSA 2024 Delay include: 📝Heightened Financial Uncertainty for Students 📝Potential Impact on College Acceptance Deadlines 📝Reduced Accessibility to Aid Programs 📝Increased Workload for Financial Aid Offices As David Sheridan aptly noted, "...this isn’t what schools and students need. We need FAFSA’s being processed." https://lnkd.in/ga9aXnQb
