This policy is designed to provide flexible and customisable protection specifically tailored for mid-sized law firms. In today’s highly competitive and intricate legal landscape, even a minor error or oversight by an individual attorney or a law firm can quickly escalate into a costly lawsuit. Tim Barrett, Vice President of AmTrust International PRO, emphasised that their underwriters carefully assess each risk on an individual basis to determine the most suitable coverage for a law firm, whether it falls under the category of admitted or E&S (Excess and Surplus Lines), primary or excess coverage, or quota share, whether it leads or coinsures. The Admitted LPL Policy Form includes intrinsic features like subpoena coverage and pre-claim assistance. Law firms are facing a new challenge as clients increasingly turn to suing their own lawyers. These suits can allege anything from conflicts of interest to failure to file important documents, and law firms are having to defend against these allegations with increasing frequency. In fact, insurance claims resulting in large payouts have been on the rise for law firms. According to a 2023 report by Ames & Gough, of the 10 companies that insure about 80% of Am Law 100 firms, seven paid out claims of over $50 million in 2021 or 2022. Two of those companies paid out claims that topped $150 million. It is pretty cool to be recognized for things like Best Lawyers because it is peer reviewed. This year I've been listed for the following categories: Alternative Dispute Resolution Construction Law Corporate and Commercial Litigation Insurance Law Personal Injury Litigation I'm here with several of my partners including David Corrigan, Sean Jeffers, and Kirk Mason, all of whom are excellent lawyers. To be honest, I think there are a lot of unlisted people that should be listed in "Best Lawyers" and I remind all of my colleagues to consider nominating people from smaller firms that may not have the same access or exposure to Best Lawyers and the like. A reminder, although it doesn't cost anything to get the designation and you have to go through the peer review process to get it, there is a paid promotional component to Best Lawyers as well. The Best Lawyers website is paid advertising and that shows you the designated lawyers who also paid to advertise their ranking there. The same thing applies for the use of the Best lawyers logo.
