Investing in Women: Accelerating Progress in the Extractive Industry. During the Jukwaa la Uziduaji 2024, the Legal and Human Rights Centre (LHRC) participated in a pivotal discussion on enhancing women’s involvement in the extractive sector. With the extractive industry largely male-dominated, LHRC is advocating for systemic changes to break down barriers and amplify women’s voices in socio-economic activities. Advocate Joyce Komanya, representing LHRC, stressed the vital role of the Ministry of Minerals in creating indicators and targets that foster women’s participation and career advancement within the sector. She emphasized that supportive policies are essential for empowering women, enabling them to fully engage in extractive processes and contribute meaningfully to value addition. #InvestInWomen #ExtractiveIndustry #LHRC #GenderEquality #JukwaalaUziduaji #Tanzania

Reflecting on #Beijing30 journey at the Eastern Africa Beijing Consultation co-hosted by FEMNET - African Women's Development and Communication Network , Zamara Foundation and Akina Mama wa Afrika and RE-AFFIRMING what feminists have been saying all these decades later:- ✓ Trust the agency and leadership of grassroots movements by putting millions & billions of dollars 💸💸💸 in their hands ...yo! they got solutions and actionable game-plan grounded on their lived realities. ✓ Gender data is powerful in reviewing progress and persistent gaps ... But critical to ask ❓....who's data? Who's analysis? Who's representation? who's being invisibilized? ✓ Governments should urgently allocate public budgets to close the gap between the progressive laws/policies on gender equitable land governance and the reality of women on the ground and eliminate all discriminatory norms and practices. ⚖️ ✓ Sisterhood and solidarity forever.... leaving no one behind. 💃💪 ✓ Be bold, say the unsaid, challenge the normalized patriarchal and capitalist structures and systems, every day and every where.📢 #AfricaBeijing30 #Beijing30 #CSW69 #GROOTSKenya

We are pleased to support #RisingFlame and CREA, Women's Fund Asia, Point of View and Mariwala Health Initiative for raising critical issues through Side Event at #Beijing +30 - Shifting Power: Making Rights Real for #Women at the Margins. #Inclusion Please join in person or virtually! It has been 3 decades since the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, and we are seeing persistent gender inequalities in the Asia-Pacific region. Women comprise most informal workers in the region (90.7% in South Asia, 75.4% in Southeast Asia), yet workforce participation has declined since 1995. Women hold only 20.8% of parliamentary seats and less than 60% have digital access. These disparities worsen for marginalized groups, including sex workers, women with disabilities, rural women, and indigenous communities. They face increased violence, digital harassment, climate impact, and legal discrimination. Addressing these challenges requires inclusive, accessible, collaborative strategies and policies that have the voices of marginalized women front and centre. Date & Time: Wednesday, 20 November 2024 5:15 PM BKK – 6:30 PM BKK (Bangkok time) Venue: Meeting Room H, Level 1, UNCC (Bangkok) + Zoom Languages: English and International Sign Language United Nations ESCAP UN Women #Beijing+30 #BFPA

Today Women's International Day, I am thinking of all the things women have achieved and of all the strong women I have met in my work and personal life. Yet women's roles and responsibilities are often under-appreciated. It's crucial that we recognize women's contributions to society, not just today but every day. I recently read a paper highlighting women's crucial role in maintaining life during conflict in Myanmar. The paper featured a quote that deeply inspired me: "All women suffered trauma, violence and displacements, and yet all also strived for a more just future, sustaining both family and revolution through hard precarious labour, fueled by love for one’s kin and community." Let's take a moment to recognize and appreciate women's strength and resilience as well as their incredible contributions throughout the world. #WomensInternationalDay #WomenChangemakers
