Libraries aren't just buildings. Librarians do outreach and provide bookmobile service. If you live in rural or underserved areas, libraries will do their best to serve you. Let's make sure to provide them with the funding they need for the extra support! #libraries #publiclibraries #bookmobiles #libraryoutreach #governance #localgovernment #stategovernment #federalgovernment

Head of Legal Practice, Finance and Administration. Non Executive Professional Member of The Council of Licensed Conveyancers.
A brilliant AGM with great speakers answering challenging questions on everything data, change, innovation, regulation and compliance. I particularly liked the question - why will it change now, haven’t we heard it all before? The answer - because it has to, with technical advancements, consumer demand and collaboration. It’s not just upfront information, that’s just part of the change, it’s everything but most important a change in mindset from everyone involved estate agents, lawyers, lenders, banking, land registry etc Refreshingly challenging and forward thinking. #changemakers #industryleaders #regulation
And that's a wrap! Thanks to all who attended and contributed to today's AGM. We're finishing up by introducing our Council members to the regulated community. We weren't able to answer all the questions, but we will respond to every question received.

Let me share a bit of my path to STEM: Growing up, while money was tight, I was grateful that my family had enough to always meet my needs. That being said, I never got to attend the premium summer camps my peers in richer areas got to. My mom was a stay-at-home mom and did her best. She prioritized my STEM education, but no matter her goals, she could never afford to send me to those premium camps. I was lucky enough to attend two summers of robotics camp for free through gracious donors, which I attribute to my current interest in robotics and AI, but those opportunities required rigorous applications and were highly selective. Access to STEM Education at a young age should not be selective - it should be universal. Right now there is a premium on quality STEM education - I aim to end that. This leads me to Camp STEMPowered LLC. My goal is twofold: 1. Offer low-cost camps to EVERYONE with no income checks. 2. Offer free camps to low-income students attending school districts with historically low STEM resources (this is where I lean on the generosity of donors). I plan to focus on summer camps, but will also incorporate virtual webinar learning sessions, and hackathons to instill confidence in each kid that a career in STEM is achievable regardless of where they come from. That being said, I can't do it alone. There are a few ways I could use help: 1. If this message resonates with you and you have the time, consider applying for a position on the board. 2. While I am still in the process of applying for nonprofit status, if you have any connections with experience in grant writing or corporate giving please send them my way! 3. Repost this to gain visibility. Just as generosity has been shown to me, I plan to continue the cycle and help the next generation. Together we can show ALL people have a place in the wonderful field of STEM!
And just like that Camp STEMPowered LLC is official! Camp STEMPowered aims to bring accessible STEM education to children nationwide starting with Columbus, OH through summer camps, webinars, and hackathons. We are currently searching to fill a board. If you or someone you know is interested in serving on the board of a nonprofit and loves sharing STEM with children of diverse backgrounds please apply to join the board here: https://lnkd.in/eSN94VaF. Applications are due September 20th, 2024. Please share to all interested! Shout out to the current board members: Executive Director - Ava Wandersleben Director of Research and Development - Annarose Hilhorst

This is one of the ways I fill my 'community bucket' - by volunteering at the Ottawa Community Foundation, on the board, the Grants Committee and the Impact Investing Committee. If you are not familiar - OCF is your community impact broker, helping to bring together so many parts of Ottawa, to pool together our funds and use that to re-invest in our community. We connect people looking for ways to invest their funds for the good of the community (donors), with local nonprofits/charities (service providers) serving those who can really use that investment (community members or causes). And the causes we support are driven by what's needed and what's important to the people who make up our city - so range from social services to health to education to arts and culture to heritage to environment to animal rights. I love volunteering here because it helps me feel connected to the heartbeat of Ottawa across all of our diversity - from grassroots local community groups to donors and funders to business leaders to policy makers. As individuals we are each plugged into to different parts of our city, geographically or sectorally or demographically. But here, we are all united through our common interest in making our city a better place for everyone. So here's a little window into the amazing work that's happening in our city everyday, thanks to all these different folks coming together, each doing our part, to lift each other up.
