I am a FIRM believer in having standardized processes for anything that happens on a regular basis within the workplace. Today was a great example of why. I haven't processed a CDL student application in a while, because normally Haleigh Fitzgerald does that. But this week, she is on a well-deserved vacation so I needed to process a few.
I pulled the first one out and just sort of stared at it for a second because despite having written the procedure, I could not remember it for the life of me. Thankfully, all our departmental processes are standardized and written down, so I pulled it up and got to work. That way, not only was I able to do the thing, but Haleigh will come back knowing it was done the exact same way she would have done it, and those students are getting the exact same level of service.
I know it can feel like one more thing to do, but I'm telling you: standardize your processes and procedures and WRITE THEM DOWN. It is a massive time saver in the long run.
