Nurturing Growth: The Impact of Proactive Communication & Pastoral Care in Education Transitioning into a new school, in a leadership role and in a new country, brings with it both expected challenges and delightful surprises. What has been particularly eye-opening for me is experiencing this transition through the lens of our four-year-old daughter. Settling into her new school at ELIS Murcia, within the purpose-built early years centre, has been a remarkable journey. One afternoon, a few weeks in, our daughter shared with us that she wanted to ask her new friends to play her favourite games during break time but was uncertain of their names. That evening, as we unpacked her bag, we discovered a note from her teacher in the daily communication journal. It was heartening to find out that they had already noticed our daughter's struggle with learning the names of her classmates. In a stroke of simple brilliance, her teacher designated her the 'fruit monitor', a role that allowed her to assist during snack time by calling out her classmate's names and handing them their snacks. This seemingly small gesture made an immense impact. Fast forward a few weeks, and our drives home are now filled with our daughter's joyful stories about playing with her newfound friends. It's moments like these that affirm our belief in the exceptional nature of this school and solidify our happiness in choosing it for our daughters. This experience has underscored the vital importance of proactive pastoral care and open communication in the educational journey. It is a reminder that even the smallest gestures can have a profound impact on a child's sense of belonging and well-being in their learning environment. #Education #ProactiveCare #CommunicationMatters #HolisticLearning #EmpoweringChildren #ELISMurcia

Shanghai Masters and the Power of Co-Curricular Learning This past weekend, the Shanghai Masters exemplified the qualities of focus, resilience, and determination—values we also cherish at El Limonar International School Murcia. The tournament reminded me how co-curricular education not only helps develop skills but also connects students' learning to real-world experiences. I’m especially excited that my daughter has recently joined the Carlos Alcaraz Tennis Academy, an outstanding co-curricular opportunity offered here at ELIS Murcia. This activity allows her to pursue her enjoyment of tennis while instilling the importance of practice and perseverance, critical to life on and off the court. At ELIS Murcia, we believe that co-curricular activities are vital in shaping students who embody our core values of Respect, Care, Perseverance, Kindness, and Honesty. We ensure that our students not only dream big but also learn how to achieve their goals. It’s about building well-rounded individuals and valuing an education that extends beyond the four walls of the classroom. #ShanghaiMasters #CarlosAlcarazAcademy #ELISMurcia #CoCurricularLearning #Respect #Care #Perseverance #Kindness #Honesty #HolisticEducation

At the midpoint of our INSET & Induction week, it was an absolute pleasure to witness the Heads of Faculty at El Limonar International School Murcia lead their first staff development sessions of the academic year. At the heart of our school's success is our unwavering commitment to staff development. This year marks a significant point with the introduction of bespoke, faculty-driven staff development plans. These have been carefully crafted over the summer term, following teacher reflections on both successes and challenges within the context of our pedagogical framework. These insights were essential in creating unique pathways for each faculty, ensuring development is tailored and impactful. Each Head of Faculty has created a ten-part development programme, meticulously timetabled for the year, demonstrating a strong alignment between our values and educational best practices. We believe that placing the right people in the right rooms and protecting time for meaningful conversations, while leveraging both our internal expertise and Cognita Schools high quality educational resources and network of schools, creates the most significant impact on our learning environment. Soon we will welcome our School Improvement Partner, Jon Coward, who has been instrumental in developing this approach. His ongoing role as our critical friend will be vital as we navigate this first year of faculty-led development. At ELIS Murcia, this collaborative and reflective approach underlines our commitment to continuous improvement, ensuring our staff and students are poised for success.

A wonderful reflection on a fantastic year at Walhampton told through the voices of Jonny Timms and the pupils. It is a privilege and a joy to support this extraordinary school.
We are delighted to share our recent film that was showcased at Founders' Day 2024. Giving a glimpse into daily life at Walhampton, pupil voice, our PoP Group and of course our brilliant cohort of Year 8 leavers as they received their exam certificates. Fond memories for all to look back upon and treasure. "We want every one of you to look back at your time here and say I really, really loved school. Walhampton is now in you, it is part of your identity, it always will be." Jonny Timms #walhamptonschool #walhamptonfamily #foundersday2024 #pupilvoice #schoollife

Knowledge animation is a cornerstone of the Cognita Schools philosophy. At El Limonar International School Murcia, we are privileged to draw upon the collective experience and expertise across the Group to continuously elevate our educational offering. Yesterday marked two significant moments in my diary this term. Our end of year Governance meeting, vital for ensuring oversight and rigour in our school, was truly enriching. It always brings a wealth of shared insights and expertise. We were delighted to welcome our Managing Director, Germà Rigau, and his Executive PA, Lisa Williams, back to ELIS Murcia for their second visit this year. Germà’s extensive commercial and educational experience proved invaluable, enabling our leadership team to reassess and pinpoint further areas for improvement. It was also a pleasure to welcome Neil Tetley, Principal of Hastings Madrid, who meticulously reviewed our educational offering and the various strategic workstreams we have undertaken this year. His fresh perspective during the comprehensive five-hour review of our progress to date will be crucial as we embark on our school improvement plan for the upcoming academic year. In the afternoon, I had the privilege of leading a session with aspiring leaders from our school group in Spain, Italy, and Switzerland, focusing on the importance of data management in schools. The interactive session included a case study that sparked lively discussion and reflections. I was immensely grateful for the opportunity to share my experiences with this group and to learn about their initiatives and their impact on student outcomes. The aspiring leaders' course, led by Jon Coward and Judy Dean, stands as a testament to Cognita's commitment to investing in its people and actively developing them for future leadership roles. While we are proudly ELIS Murcia, we are equally proud to be part of the Cognita family.

Purposeful Reflections: New Year at ELIS Murcia As we step into the New Year, resolutions abound – promises to run more, frequent the gym, and adopt healthier eating habits echo around us. However, amid the fervour of these resolutions, there's a tendency to focus on the 'how' rather than delving deep into the 'what' and 'why' behind our aspirations. The start of the calendar year aligns with the midpoint of the academic year, providing an opportune moment to reassess goals and evaluate progress. It's a chance not only to gauge achievements but also to revisit the underlying motivations that drive us. At the beginning of this academic year, we collectively pondered why we work at ELIS Murcia. Now, as we find ourselves at the midpoint, it's the perfect time to reconnect with that initial thought. While many are steadfast in their commitment to New Year resolutions and processes, at ELIS Murcia, our commitment lies in understanding and embracing our 'why.' In upcoming staff briefings, we will reinforce our connection to the core values and purpose that brought us together. Amid mounting responsibilities and daily tasks, taking a moment to reflect on our collective purpose fosters a sense of unity and rejuvenates our shared commitment to providing exceptional education. By reiterating our 'why,' we align our efforts with a greater purpose, enhancing the impact we collectively make. As we navigate the rest of the academic year, let's not just focus on tasks but continuously revisit the essence of our mission. In doing so, we fortify our resolve, ensuring that our actions are deliberate steps towards a shared vision. As we approach the first recruitment round of the academic year, with roles set to be advertised in the coming days, reconnecting with our 'why' becomes pivotal. This introspection will not only guide us but also help attract the very best staff who resonate with our collective mission, values, and methods. Let's embrace the power of purpose as we propel ourselves towards continued growth and excellence in education. #ELISMurcia #PurposefulLeadership #Reflections #EducationExcellence
