You don’t have to be a Hollywood star to relate! “Everyone’s going to go into menopause at some point or another - why shouldn’t we be talking about it?!” As the fabulous The Female Quotient put it, if you’re a woman in or approaching menopause, there might be some fear, shame, and anxiety surrounding it - naturally! But Naomi Watts is right. All women *will* get there so we need to put the topic on the table sooner rather than later. It’s conversations like these that are going to shift the entire culture around menopause and help society approach it with more understanding and empathy. Keep it up. Others 👏 are 👏 listening.

Beyond the stigma- so little research has been done. Most doctors have zero recommendations for women in Perimenopause or menopause. Imagine being told- yeah your body is changing, you have uncomfortable symptoms, your hormone levels are out of whack- but there is almost nothing they can do. What’s worse- we are stigmatized for showing symptoms. Because of male dominated medical researc, we are almost a century behind in researching many women’s health issues and have seriously made life harder for half the population. I am lucky that birth control helps with my perimenopausal hormone levels. However extremists in our government are pushing for even birth control to become illegal. Women like myself use it for pain mitigation and hormone adjustment- not strictly for birth control. The ignorance and under attention to women’s health is appalling. Conversations like the below as well as a push for advanced tech to be applied to women’s health research is encouraging. Philanthropists like Melinda French Gates are making a huge difference in the space- more likeminded efforts please!

Acknowledging #menopause and #andropause benefits both employees and organizations. ‼️Ignoring menopause costs employers. In the U.S., symptoms result in $1.8 billion in lost work time annually according to a recent Mayo Clinic study. Supporting employees during this life transition improves engagement, productivity, and overall workplace culture. So what the practical steps for employers are? ▪️Train managers to discuss menopause openly with all staff and understand available support. ▪️Implement policies that promote equality, #diversity, and #inclusion, addressing menopause and andropause. ▪️Create an #inclusive environment where reasonable adjustments can be made What are some of the steps your organization have taken?

Menopause. A word we don't speak about that much and sometimes even take for granted. But it's real; for some it breezes through and for some it comes like a thousand crashing rocks. #Share your stories for #awareness. #menopause #speakup

All women, not just the famous ones, need to keep talking and speaking out about #menopause! Last year I did a very interesting creative test project about this very current subject working with women in #knowsley #merseyside around their lived experience of the menopause. So let's keep encouraging everyone to be part of the conversation. #pauseandplay2023 #artsandwellbeing #DYCP
