This taboo topic needs to lose its power, so let’s start by addressing it openly! What’s perimenopause and why is it crucial that we raise awareness, especially for women in business? Perimenopause is the transitional period before menopause, leading up to when estrogen and progesterone levels begin to fluctuate and diminish over the course of years. As we women approach our 40s and 50s, we can begin to enter perimenopause, which prompts significant changes in our bodies, but also emotional and mental states. For some women, this shift can begin as early as 35 which is also the age bracket during which women are likely to move into higher leadership positions. If we want to continue to move the needle on the number of women in leadership roles and maintain their valuable contributions to a company’s bottom line, it is crucial to be more open about what perimenopause is and raise awareness how it affects women at the workplace. Symptoms may vary but most women experience hot flashes, mood changes, sleep problems, anxiety, just to name a few. So what can we already do now? It starts by simply talking about it, bringing the topic to daylight! Active leadership support, offering flexible work schedules, options to work from home and providing company information sessions, can make a significant positive contribution for women in business. If you are a female leader going through perimenopause, try to normalize your challenges, so that other women can feel empowered to speak up in the future. Like and share! Let’s break the glass ceiling together, one step at a time ❤️
I struggled terribly for a while. Working in a male dominated environment was very challenging when it came to me expressing how I was feeling hormonally. In fact, it got so difficult, I left. I chose not to work for a while. Your post is sharing a really important message x
Having a hot flash while in a meeting - or worse still, presenting - was the worst! In my 30 years in tech, I can't remember ever seeing a woman having a hot flash in the office. Either WAY too few women (true) or they hid their symptoms super well.

1wI read somewhere that in average 1 in 3 women are peri or menopausal at any given time (85% experiencing symptoms), mind-blowing that it’s still such taboo, it’s really time we change the narrative 👏🏼
