🌟 Exciting News! 🌟 I am happy to share that I've embarked on a transformative stretch assignment in the vibrant city of Boston, within one of J&J’s Innovation Centers. “But you’re taking on more work…why do that? What do you get out of it?” Whatever you call them, ‘grow’, ‘stretch’, or ‘development’ opportunities mean you will probably work more. Plus, you’re not traditionally advancing your career (e.g. “moving up” in a new job). So, why do it? The short answer: any chance I get to learn, I’m going to take. The long answer:  I’m at an interesting point in my career where I know some things I absolutely love to do and some things I’d prefer to do less. Being granted a spot to work with some of the brightest minds in the world doesn’t happen all the time. So, for me, it was an obvious choice to jump at this opportunity. In this role, I am immersing myself in the rich ecosystem of Boston's BioTech, collaborating with kind and interesting professionals and scientists, and, most importantly, I’m encouraged to explore everything that sets my heart on fire. I want to consistently evaluate and reevaluate what makes me happy in my career, what I find motivating, and the goals I ultimately want to work towards. I think everyone should. When I’m invested in the work I’m doing it makes me a more engaged performer and a more compassionate colleague. A thoughtful approach to your next role can benefit you and the business, they’re not mutually exclusive. While I’m contributing to workstreams up in Boston, helping them be even more efficient and impactful wherever I can, I’m also: - stepping well outside my comfort zone - actively learning a completely new part of the business - working with new and diverse teams I am grateful for the trust extended to me by my colleagues and leadership team, (Michal Preminger and Angelique Navarro especially) who have empowered me to take this opportunity, learn, explore, and stay curious. While joining my new organisation, a lot of my seniors and friends from industry advised me to take up role in a established organisation instead of taking risk of joining a young organisation but I went ahead with my instinct and joined Aryastha Life Sciences. I believe a young organisation can catalyse both personal and career growth significantly. They offer a dynamic environment where employees often wear multiple hats, fostering a breadth of experience across various business functions. Meet this month’s employee spotlight, Oliver! 👋 Oliver is our Health Sciences Advancement Officer and joined the Curtin Advancement team last year to help bring many of our wonderful health sciences projects to life. We caught up with Oliver to learn more about some of the projects he is currently working on. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐲? I love how every day is so different, whether it’s the work I’m doing or the people I meet. Engaging with those who are directly impacted by what Advancement does, even the most mundane tasks feel like a meaningful piece of the bigger picture. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐰? Many exciting things are happening in Health Sciences at the moment! I’m starting to plan Curtin’s booth for this year’s Telethon Family Festival. It will be my first time managing it, but I have a wealth of experience to draw upon. I volunteered last year shortly after I started at Curtin, and it was wonderful to interact with families involved in some of Curtin’s wonderful research projects. I’m looking forward to putting my own spin on it this year! 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤? I’m very much into rock climbing. I’m actually petrified of heights so I started climbing as a way to face that fear, but I grew to really love the physicality of it and the problem-solving. It’s so much fun bringing new people into the sport and watch them crush it, especially when they initially doubt their abilities.
