Building products that create impact, healing and delight • Here to help on UX, research and design leadership
This ad is a great example of what transparency looks like. In this ad, the City of Santa Monica is asking 5 key questions that people can prepare of ahead of time. In some disability accommodations scenarios, people can ask for questions earlier as part of accommodations, but usually can get them about 1/2 an hour before the interview which isn't much of an accommodation. This shows you in particular what the hiring team is thinking about, and while being prepared for a variety of questions in important, they show a candidate that beyond a bullet list of requirements, these in particular are areas to focus on. While I'm not planning to become a BA again, and while Santa Monica is a great city - and extremely tempting - I'd love to see more of this happen. It looks like L.A. civic government jobs does something similar, so I'm not sure if this is a California trend, a government trend or both - but seeing more transparency in hiring is going to benefit both job seekers and job hiring committees.

I'm creating a city-wide petition toImplement Safety and Navigation Representatives in Los Angeles Public Transport, and your signature could help revolutionize Los Angeles. Here's my proposal: The City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation hires a minimum wage Safety & Navigation Representative for each bus and metro compartment. The benefits are substantial: 1. Increased Employment: LA's unemployment rate sits at 5.2% (BLS). This program could create over 7,250 new jobs! 2. Boosted Revenue: A small fare increase (e.g., $2 to $3) could cover program costs and generate profit due to increased ridership. 3. Cleaner Air & Less Traffic: Feeling safe would incentivize ditching cars, leading to fewer vehicles on the road, reducing pollution and congestion. 4. Enhanced Safety: Onboard representatives could deter crime, substance abuse, and disruptions, creating a safer experience for everyone. 5. Improved Navigation: Representatives can assist with directions, particularly for those with disabilities. https://lnkd.in/e4bxtciE

Over the past four years, the Inland Empire, comprised of Riverside and San Bernardino counties, has emerged as California's top region for job creation. This area saw an impressive increase in its workforce, adding 128,400 jobs to reach a total of 1.68 million workers, the highest growth across all state regions. The Inland Empire was responsible for about 20% of the new jobs in California since 2019, a significant contribution given that it makes up only 9% of the state's total employment. This remarkable job growth, partly fueled by the COVID-19 pandemic, has been broad-based, spanning across sectors including transportation and utilities, beyond just logistics. The region's success in job creation not only underscores its economic significance but also its role in strengthening California's overall economic health and resilience. No -- he doesn't. I reject this entire notion that a city manager must profess absolute devotion and loyalty to a city that can fire you on a whim. The City of Kansas City, MO needs to convince Brian Platt to stay long term. I don't know Platt, nor do I have any inside information. What I do know is that the City of Austin is going to be considered a top 5 destination for many city managers, if not the top destination. If you had an opportunity to play or coach for the Yankees... If you were being recruited by Google or Apple... ...of course you are going to consider it! There is no shame in testing the waters to see if the Austin opportunity might have been a realistic possibility. This is a resume capstone, if ever there was one. And frankly, there is no shame even if he was simply leveraging Austin to extract a stronger contract and better compensation in KC. This op-ed writer is seriously confused about the current market dynamics for city managers across the nation. It is thin. There is more demand for talented managers than there is supply -- for a variety of reasons. What Kansas City and any other elected official reading this post who value their current city manager should be thinking is: "What do we need to do to make sure our city manager is happy and content with their pay, benefits, and work environment?" ---- The City Manager RTRs & Job Board is my FREE newsletter that I publish on LinkedIn. You can subscribe to it here: https://lnkd.in/edEk6FxH Each week, I publish a list of city and county managers, and ACM/DCMs who resigned, were terminated, or retired along with job postings. https://lnkd.in/efYziYhG
