Director, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory

It was a pleasure to join colleagues and scientists from around the world at #COSPAR2024 this week, where I presented on NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s pursuit of one of humanity’s most awe-inspiring questions: Are we alone? We are in a scientific space race with ourselves to find the answer as we work on ambitious missions and projects to explore our solar system and beyond. Europa Clipper will investigate a global ocean beneath the icy crust of one of Jupiter’s moons. The JPL-built Coronagraph Instrument on the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope will help us make giant leaps in exoplanet exploration. And, we’re pioneering a solution to bring Mars samples of high scientific value to Earth – including those currently being explored by the Perseverance rover (more on that here: https://bit.ly/3WojzW6). This pathfinding exploration is made possible by the teams at JPL, who #DareMightyThingsTogether with NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration and our partners in the name of great science!

May I: If we don’t already have, why not use the moon as a NASA Space Lab for studying such materials? Unless I am wrong, I think we are often extra cautious about space viruses? So a Moon Based Lab would help filter Earth from unexpected breakouts? So, yes, once confirmed save for Earth exposure, we can do further studies here? “Sending it to you, Earth”?
