The U.S. construction industry is grappling with a severe labor shortage; it's one of the industry's greatest challenges. Last year, builders needed 501,000 workers beyond normal hiring levels to meet demand. The gap is expected to continue in 2025 with an estimated need for 454,000 new workers. Job openings are historically high, averaging 288,000 late last year. It's even harder in our current tight labor market. The impacts of the shortage are severe. We need to build more houses, but who's going to build them without workers? Needed infrastructure will be delayed. And labor scarcity drives up costs. We need to develop a workforce and experienced builders mentoring young people is one way to do that. At Webcor, many of our employees have taken on mentorships.
