Curious about the market outlook for 2024? It's positive! The facts: the U.S. legal market added 4,500 jobs in December and 3,700 jobs in November. There is optimism about the deal market with interest rates stabilizing and an uptick in activity in the fourth quarter. And many Am Law 100 law firms have a renewed focus on hiring M&A partners. My pipeline is proof in point. For the first time since 2022, over half the candidates I have actively interviewing this month are focused on transactional practices, including EC/VC, technology transactions, real estate and M&A. Transactional folks, if you've been waiting on the sidelines for the market to improve before entering the lateral market, now is a good time to consider your options. Today, I'm meeting with the Office Managing Partner and Recruiting Director of an AmLaw 200 firm to help them hire multiple litigation associates and discuss 2024 hiring goals. They could've just emailed me that there was an open position, or I could've just waited until it went up on their website, but I think that's the worst way to do it. I much prefer meeting in person with clients so I can: (1) Get a real sense of the culture of the firm and authentically convey it to candidates; (2) Learn about the position in detail, including the dynamics of the practice, the group itself, and what the perfect fit looks like between the candidate and the firm; and (3) Become their go-to resource for their recruiting needs. Instead of just posting on your website to see what comes in, schedule a meeting with me so I can curate candidates for you. Lunch or coffee is always my treat!
