Since 2015, Fira has helped lead the way integrating Building Information Modelling (BIM) into the landscape architecture profession. A milestone of this journey was marked at the Landscape Institute ‘Digital Practice & Technology for Landscape conference’, where Fira was represented by our Digital Lead Gareth Lapworth. BIM has revolutionised how Fira works and is a now a fundamental pillar of our practice, helping to take projects from concept to completion. From early design reviews, to visualising a scheme, to coordination with other disciplines, and right through to long-term management; BIM is helping to drive Fira’s evolution as we respond to global challenges such as flood alleviation, urban cooling, and reducing carbon emissions. It was great to have a general discussion with Giuliana Santos and Alejandro Masferrer Gatica on the digital impact on landscape practice, and to take questions from the audience to help other people on their digital journey. Overall, it was a great day see people face to face, exchanging experiences and attending a variety of digital seminars. Last week, the #TheBIMConference2024 was an amazing and valuable experience! I must admit I had no idea what to expect when invited to talk at the conference but my expectations were exceeded by how many people are interested in BIM in Greece and how well informed and professional they are! I was happy to see that there is a genuine interest in BIM and a willingness to collaborate and share knowledge. Thanks to all the co-presenters for sharing their valuable and beautiful experiences. BIM in Greece has taken roots and thanks to Liana Anagnostaki, Lida Deliyianni, Technical Chamber of Greece and BOUSSIAS it has a bright future! It's been an honor to talk at the conference where I spoke about the general benefits of BIM for the Landscape Architect. Hopefully I'll be at the next one again, because after I saw all these wonderful presentations and met these bright people I would want to show many more examples of projects made with BIM in Landscape Architecture this time!
