Students in Mr. Bopp’s class recently learned about bus schedules and what to expect when using public transportation. They then practiced using the RRTA system to go to Central Market in Lancaster City. At Central Market, students practiced using the dollar-up method and which bill is the most appropriate in making a purchase. 🚌🛍️ 💵#WorkWorthDoing

So we have a new government and a new ministerial team at the DfE led by Secretary of State Bridget Phillipson. Wonderful news in my book and a long time coming after years of ideologically-driven (with cherry picked evidence) policy. Reforming Ofsted (or OFSTEAD (sic)) will be on the agenda following a major loss of confidence in the inspection system in England after the tragic death of Ruth Perry. Have a look at my piece here on why reform needs to run deep. We know that there is low hanging fruit here with the abolition of one word judgements. But that is just the start. Assuming we retain Ofsted and school inspections remain a big part of the landscape, we need to re-align how our schools are inspected and learn from other countries. It is perfectly possible to have an inspection regime which is hard-wired into a broader school improvement system. The previous government knew that but was happy with single bullet judgements which, egregiously in my book, were used as a one way door to academisation. Our own research with current inspectors reveals a complex set of interactions under the surface of Ofsted and it is time this was allowed to surface rather than inspectors worried about crossing a line and actually supporting a school's improvement journey - heaven forfend! 💥 Big Back to School announcement this morning as one-word Ofsted judgments are scrapped. We hope the move will give all those working in schools more confidence to lead, teach and support, and give young people a well-rounded education that better prepares them for life and work 💥 🗝️ Key to this will come in the design of the Report Card - not just replicating the existing Ofsted judgment categories, but clearly separating out elements like how schools prepare young people for their next steps (academic or vocational) There is a pressing need for clarity about when and how this will come into play for FE colleges. We are just wrapping up a research project exploring how FE colleges experience the inspections process, find out more, here 🖱️ https://lnkd.in/eVv7E_nM

Syllabus rules are often one component of this type of legislation, and Concourse Syllabus can help schools reach compliance with these requirements. Whether the state legislation is new to you, new to your state, or still on the horizon, join us in a discussion on how Concourse has helped colleges in states with existing regulations (like Texas and Florida) achieve compliance.

🚌 Understanding Ohio School Bus Safety Laws With schools reporting back on August 8, it's crucial to remember Ohio's school bus and zone laws, designed to protect our children. In our busy lives, it's easy to get frustrated by school zones and buses. However, always slow down to 20 mph in school zones during restricted times and remember that residential speed limits are 25 mph. Do you know when to stop for a school bus? On two-lane streets, all drivers must stop at least ten feet from a stopped bus. On roads with four or more lanes, only drivers on the same side as the bus must stop. Non-compliance can lead to hefty fines and license suspensions. See the link to the PDF below for more details. Information from West Chester Township, Ohio Newsletter August 2024
