Greetings Network - I have the honor to serve on the Corporate Advisory Board for SOME (So Others Might Eat). My responsibilities include raising awareness of the amazing work that SOME does in hopes of driving corporate and individual sponsorship. SOME's major annual fundraising event is being held on October 19th at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC and I'm sharing some information in hopes you will consider attending and/or sponsoring SOME. Just a few highlights of the community support that SOME provides: - Housing - There are 1,295 residents enrolled in SOME affordable housing program, including single adults, families and seniors. - Healthcare - Every year, over 22,000 SOME clients visit a doctor, dentist, therapist or case worker in one of our clinics - Education & Workforce Development - SOME's Center for Employment Training graduates earn, on average, $18/hr—almost $2 more than DC’s minimum wage. - Emergency & Social Services - SOME serves more than 85,000 personnel through our emergency services. Please note that it has never been more important to contribute to the mission of organizations like SOME. A recent Washington Post article outlines the challenges facing affordable housing programs in the District. "A ‘perfect storm’ of problems pushes D.C. toward full blown housing crisis - Unpaid rent, rising costs and a lack of public funds are putting affordable-housing developers at risk of financial collapse." People's lives have been changing for the better. Washington State has less than 30,000 homeless in the state. We must ensure these lives are uplifted within our own motivational goals achieved with the help of leaders and corporations. Giving second chances and opportunities to those seeking to rebuild their lives. Creating high net worth tax payers and civil service citizens. From homeless hopeless abandoned lives. With hopes and dreams of today's triumphs. I believe wholeheartedly we can and will treasure each talent and gifts instilled in these lives. For a better outcome then just able to live in affordable housing. Instead able to build homes buy businesses and create what ever their talents led them to do. As part of its ongoing commitment to serve the church, Auxilio Partners presented a free webinar on May 22, “Bad Things Can Happen to Good Churches: Steps to Protect Your People and Your Ministry.” The recording of the webinar is now available. Today, we're proud to illuminate the remarkable journey of our partners, The Salvation Army UK and Ireland Territory. As we delved into the survivor stories shared on their website, we were struck by the many guises used by traffickers to ensnare, exploit, and enslave individuals. Each story serves as a stark reminder of the complexities and challenges faced by victims of modern slavery. Yet, amidst the darkness, we also witness the unwavering strength, courage, and resilience of survivors who refused to be defined by their past. From homelessness and coercion to safety and empowerment, The Salvation Army's commitment to providing comprehensive support shines brightly. Their safe houses, specialist support workers, and tailored programs offer a lifeline to survivors, guiding them towards healing, recovery, and a brighter future. Selfless service (or in Hindi - #seva) is a guiding principle in my life. I feel so fortunate to work for a company that also values service to others, particularly by coordinated efforts both financially and through volunteerism, to support our local non-profits. Can someone pinch me? Is it real life that my job is to create engagement opportunities for our employees with great missions across our city?! This past month, Bison collected over 1400 items to donate to Infant Crisis Services, and also have in-person volunteer opportunities to look forward to in the near future. Sharing for a few reasons: 1. I am proud of our Herd and love my job. 2. ICS is an incredible organization serving our littlest community members and their families. Aim to provide a multi-faceted approach so all members of your workforce can contribute to your service efforts in ways that are meaningful and appropriate (depending on their specific circumstances). 4. I learned some things on my sabbatical working with the homeless that might interest you. 1. Many people are vulnerable to homelessness. I worked with a young music pastor that was in a car wreck and in a comma for six months. He lost everything during this time and was without any solid family support. How would you fare if you didn't have a payday for 6 months? 2. Modern street drugs are absolutely devastating. There are thousands of stories of people that tried fentanyl or meth a single time and spiraled into uncontrollable addiction. What ever your politics, for love of your fellow man, work to lessen the availability of these poisons. There is an economic term "Supply makes its own demand", and this is very true for modern drugs. 3. It is not all hopeless. First hand I observed many hardened convicts, former addicts, and folks with hard luck get on their feet again and prosper. But it takes good programming and sometimes tough love to help reach their goals. Finally, in my humble opinion, giving to homeless ministries and organizations is a very rewarding investment. However, take time to understand the organization because not all organizations get successful results. I am biased here, but strongly endorse the House of Refuge Sunnyslope.
